Microsoft quietly extends free Windows 10 Extended Security Updates

Good news for people who use Windows 10 and cannot upgrade to Windows 11

Microsoft has extended its free Windows 10 Extended Security Updates (ESU) programme for people who still use the operating system by an additional year.

The programme, which provides critical security updates for Windows 10 after its end of service, has been extended to 12 October 2027.
 
My Win10 still going strong and no plan to change it in the next year or so.
This thing is a beast, it's been through 2 or 3 entire system hardware changes and I've never seen it blue screen or moan about anything.

Or change to the penguin, which comes with some advantages that it runs on older hardware, though the latest ones did drop running on an Intel 486 processor, though there are plenty that still do so, certainly more than users of the hardware. Also will run faster on a machine that windows runs like a dog on, and you get a choice of web browsers, and as most of your email has web access, it will do the email side, and Open office and the others gives you 98% of the document handling that you get on Windows, all for free, and if you are the 2% who cannot do without those functions, you would long ago have upgraded already, and gotten on the rental payments for the OS and applications already, with the caveat that missing a month means you lose everything.
 
Only using Win 10 in a virtual box on my Ubuntu, just for DRM streaming needs, so they can shove their security updates :p

But well done them anyway

Been openable for a good few years now, much to my bank balance misfortune. You can even open it in Chrome or Firefox as well, totally OS agnostic, and the functionality is as good as the Adobe bloatware, and comes with not needing to download a 1G installer, that in addition to installing a "trial viewer", also does install a whole host of useless bloatware, and trial versions of another 100 junk things that will all expire and demand payment in 32 days.

At least SARS has changed from needing IE6.0, because of OpenX controls that they needed because who knows what.
 
Based my entire hardware upgrade on win 10 support ending - which hurt the pocket badly with current pricing. Then again, who knows what that will look like in a year anyway.

got a spare PC with Win7, simply because i never use the HDD with it on it, and i also have a few XP VM's i use for things that will not work under Wine. Looking for more as people toss them, I want some spare parts and spare machines, and free is a good price.

Google AI is quite good at finding ways to keep Win 10 & its Edge trim in a VM. May try install Corel X3 (13) next on that, Wine is too full of ifs and buts..

I did manage to finally get IrfanView (famous privately developed pics viewer) onto Ubuntu with Wine though.
