So my awesome laptop fell. It's a Dell xps studio 1645. It's still working perfectly however being a 2010 laptop it's gonna be difficult to find its housing. The damage is not extreme and I can post pics here for those interested in buying it. Besides selling it I'm now in the market for an upgrade but somehow almost all laptops i come across at below 10k are like a downgrade. In that they don't have some of the features I had in this dell. So I need advice in upgrading to a better machine. The make is not that much of an issue and the main features I need are a HD screen. Core i5 or core i7. Ram in most cases is upgradeable so any amount its bundled with is cool. A dedicated graphics card are important and hdmi slot are important because I do design and graphics but getting into video as well so something that can handle adobe suite proper. Premiere and effects and 3D apps like cinema 4d.
Any suggestions welcome and I'd even consider a macbook if it's suggested as a better alternative.

It is first gen Core architecture. Please post pictures.

Attached are the damaged parts/portions. Thankfully the screen did not break and the top left corner and bottom left corner are the parts that absorbed the fall.IMG-20150622-WA0005.jpg

This is how the laptop looks though although this was taken before the bottom left crack

Thats actually a very decent laptop not sure how i had missed it. Seems to tick all the important boxes. Only thing is the price is slightly above the 10k range. But atleast I now have an idea and a glimpse that an alternative can be found. Thank you @sybertiger

np,does the laptop still work?
the damage dont look that bad, more cosmetic?

have u thought of maby getting it fixed or is this the perfect excuse for a new laptop

Yes the laptop iis working just fine. Using it to post this message. And yes the damages are actually cosmentic since nothing inside broke or shifted or got messed up. So its working perfectly but no longer looking as pretty as it was before. I'm yet to look at getting it fixed somewhere. Have been busy all week. But perhaps this weekend i may enquire at a few places i know. I dont have the finances for a new laptop. And as much as I want something new and fast. this current one meets all my needs at the present moment. Perhaps I will hold on a little longer, maybe a few months and try gather some cash. Then make a proper investment.

You could probably fix that laptop with some meshed cloth, nylon resin & qbond. Making a mould from candle wax from the good corner would help as well.

You just gave me an idea to pimp out my old backup desktop case.

If u don't travel a lot with the laptop,if its stationed at your desk, then why not rather spend money on per say a 27inch screen, since u do editing etc etc. Otherwise like stated above webdirect have really good deals on demo stock

Videos ... so you probably need a high perf GPU like 970 at least , and big VRAM with GDDr5.

What is your budget ?

I do not have a budget as I didn't expect it to fall. But now that things are the way they are perhaps about 10k. However it will be a toss up between that and a MacBook and only in the next several months while I get my finances in order. So I may have to stick with my current laptop for now till I can organize the needed cash.
