Cellphone contract cancellation: what you have to pay

Would be nice to see how it differs in other countries. Here you may as well let the contract run.
 
Yup, MTN cancellation was was R4500 for 6 months remaining on an AnyTime 200 contract with an iPhone 5 a few months ago.
 
If Cell C are so certain they are talking the truth, why don't they assist a user or 2 to take it to court using the CPA and get finality what is a reasonable cost or not...
 
CPA should take MTN to court for current non service to it's customers. And I bet they'd still have the cheek to charge cancellation.

The Consumer Protection Act should take MTN to court? Maybe you mean the Consumer something-else, Consumer Commission or such?

Something on those lines. It's just ridiculous how they are treating their customers at the moment.
 
MTN are the worse with cancellation.. Had a R99 contact, wanted to end it 2 months before but the cost was huge and it was a sim only one lol. Like paying for the two months was cheaper than canceling
 
With Vodacom I could terminate my contract the same day, with Cell C they force you to give a months notice. Cell C also make it expensive to terminate because they don't subsidise the cost of devices in their contracts which is the cost you have to settle at the end. After Cell C I'm not keen to go on contract again.
 
So Vodacom are the only ones that charge the full monthly fee x months remaining.. They're charging you for all the minutes/data/sms's that they will never supply to you if you cancel?

Surely that shouldn't be allowed?! If your contract specifies that x amount is minutes/data then by paying the full amount you're paying for just that. If you're paying for it, then they must supply it to you..
 
The best decision I made 6 years ago was to have no contract and go the prepaid route for my wife and I.

I buy the phone cash and i am happy.

Saved me at 600 a month :)

They're so greedy they don't realise it. They do it just to keep you in the contract
