South Africa improves International Mathematics Olympiad performance

How many of those kids come from private schools ? IMO those should be excluded when evaluating the country results.

Not from taking part, mind you, all good maths kids need that opportunity.

Private school pupils are citizens as well. A country should send its best pupils to this olympiad.
If you want to do a comparison, use their results in the domestic competition and compare it to the rest of the population. These relative outliers are part of the human capital of the country and will (hopefully) form the core of the the lead scientists and innovators of the next generation.

The South African team consisted of Yaseen Mowzer, Nicholas Kroon, David Neal Broodryk, Bronson Rudner, Andrew McGregor, and Sanjiv Ranchod.

Not representative of SA demographics, racist!
