Sony recently announced what it calls a "super mid-range" Xperia M5(successor to the M4)
The phone looks great on paper:
5” Full-HD (1920x1080 pixels)
16GB onboard, 3GB ram
Android 5.0
21.5 MP main cam(13Mp selfie cam)

Knowing Sony and how they like to overprice their products, this will likely cost close(or equal) to high end phones.

I agree on that but it usually sells all their new mid-range handsets over the price range of +R5000 with little to zero difference in the specs of the M, C and T range.

The E4 is R1699 and the M4 is R4499. Now price the M5 in that price range and the Huawei P8, Galaxy A3 / A5 can take a hike.

The P8 is already outdated in some areas(maybe overpriced as well) compared to the M5. I believe the M5 will go for R5800-R6500

It baffles me why they've released the 5's so soon.

It baffles me why they've released the 5's so soon.

Cuz they stuffed up the Z4 series by calling a marginal upgrade rather than the actual new flagship a Z4 in Japan (Z3v/+ elsewhere) so they have to jump to 5 when actually releasing something new.

You can always add 2-3 months lead time VS international release so my guess would be sometime November.

Am I the only one that is annoyed that the front camera is now being called a "selfie cam"?

Well...besides expensive vid calls that nobody ended up making what other purpose did that camera serve?

I think selfie cams will come in handy now that whatsapp is looking to add video calling in the near future

weaker in every way except bigger screen and slightly better back cam and much better front cam

From what I head the M4 Aqua has buggerall memory. Not an issue the M5 suffers from (although more would always be nice). And I wouldn't recommend anything further down either.
