I paid DomainCheap in the 5th of September to renew my domain. Got a receipt and everything. Yesterday I got an email from CO.ZA that my domain expired.

Now I'm unable to get DomainCheap to reply to my ticket. Their live chat keeps saying that he will forward the ticket to concern admin and then nothing happens.

I wanted this sorted yesterday already. This domain will become deleted and I feel helpless and can't do anything about it.

The telephone number that CO.ZA provides for DomainCheap doesn't work and their live chat person doesn't want to give me a phone number. My requests to speak to a supervisor or someone that can help me is ignored.

I'm at my wits end. I took leave for yesterday but have been unable to enjoy it because I am so stressed about this domain. It makes my blood boil that not only did they allow this to happen but that there's seemingly no way for me to fix it.

Please, if anyone can help. I just don't know what to do anymore.

What happens when you try to register it with Domains.co.za

Is the domain in that limbo phase or is it available for re-registration

I think it's in the limbo phase. I'm not too sure though. Something like this has never happened to me.

Okay, it looks like complaining online has helped.

Thanks to everyone who helped me. The whois of the domain now shows it as registered. It's still showing in domaincheap's web panel as not renewed but hopefully that's just a mistake on their website.

And I have no moved my .co.za domains to Domains.co.za.

Whew, I'm glad that this is all sorted now.

The WHOIS number appears to be incorrect - it has an additional digit...

This is the number I found on their PAIA manual: +27 21 813 5909 (haven't tried it, though)

So today I get a final notice invoice from DomainCheap for an invoice that was generated today only.

They want to charge me for renewing my domain for next year. From 2016 to 2017.

Now I already moved my domains away from them because of their incompetence and now they want me to pay for something that didn't happen and can't happen.

There's serious problems at DomainCheap.

*edit*

And my domains are still showing in my control panel at DomainCheap even though the domains aren't with them anymore. Plus the Next Due Date is still showing the date that has already expired.

Dear Domaincheap Customer,
First, we would like to apologise for the invoice delays that people experienced this month. We moved hosting to improve performance and ran into a technical glitch that took our engineers some time to resolve. As you know, this is not normal for us, and we apologise for any interruptions to services you may have experienced. If you have any problems, please contact our support department right away so we can resolve it for you.
Now for the big news!
Domaincheap has grown in leaps and bounds over the last 3 years. So much so that our current staff compliment is straining under the huge workload that we are experiencing. In a way this validates everything we have done so far. To grow from a small company to one that manages thousands of domains – in such a short time – has been a wonderful journey for us to experience with you.
However, Domaincheap is at the point where it needs to go to the next level. It requires better support, billing and hosting structures. With our limited capacity we would struggle to provide that, while maintaining the high levels of service you expect.
So we are happy to announce that we have sold Domaincheap to the best hosting company in South Africa. As of tomorrow, Webafrica will be the new owners of Domaincheap (you will notice that invoices will change to reflect this). We chose our buyer carefully. After having put in so much blood and sweat to ensure that our clients had the best possible platform, we did not want to pass our clients on to just anyone.
Webafrica has been thorough in auditing our systems and we have the peace of mind to know that our loyal customers are not only going to get the same levels of support – but much higher levels of assistance than we were ever able to offer.

So this message is a big thank you and goodbye from the current team at Domaincheap. It was an amazing experience that we will never forget.

Do not worry, your services will continue uninterrupted and the level of support will increase. If you have any concerns or issues, please do not hesitate to open a support ticket.
We wish you the best for the future. Happy hosting!

Warmest regards,

David & Rob

Is that so now? I wonder who determined this...

Was thinking the same thing. Cause I was with them and oh god... I feel for all the customers who is being transferred now.

May your websites rest in peace.

I think i'm jumping ship and heading over to domains.co.za

I'm not prepared to move over to WA.

I am one of those customers. Luckily, I don't have many domains signed up with them, and so I don't see migration being a problem.

Hiya Solitude,

We have spoken several times. Again an apology. Our automation being broken (and intermittently so) since we did upgrades a little while back really hurt us. What complicated the issue was very few people complaining about a lack of invoice (unless it was a domain). We have since sorted out the domains issue and the system that WA have inherited is fully functioning again.

It is amazing how 3 years of stability can be ruined by a couple of months of frustration. We learnt some very valuable lessons in all of this.

Thank goodness only a tiny amount of clients were impacted, but even one client is one too many. Thank you for understanding our issues and thank you for the time you were with us. We wish you the best of luck at your new provider.

Welcome to Webafrica! We’re super happy to have you on board with South Africa’s Largest Independent Internet Service Provider.

As you know, Webafrica has acquired Domain Cheap and we’re looking forward to providing you with the superior support we’re known for.

You’ve probably got some questions, so we’ve answered ones we think will be the most pressing.

Do I need to do anything?

Not at all. We will give you plenty of warning if we require you do to anything in the future.

Are there any price changes?

No, except Webafrica is a VAT-registered company which means we need to include VAT in your next invoice. This means 14% will be added to your next invoice, which you can obviously claim back if you too are VAT registered.

Will there be any interruptions to my service?

Absolutely not, there are no planned service interruptions.

What about support?

All support channels remain active, as they were with Domain Cheap, but you will benefit from Webafrica’s much bigger support infrastructure with 60 customer care representatives to help you. For the moment we are discontinuing live chat whilst we incorporate it into our existing infrastructure. You can continue to email [email protected] and have your queries answered.

We’re happy to welcome you to the Webafrica family.

Regards,

The Webafrica Team
