New BMW 3 Series launched in SA

I was looking forward to the plug in hybrid. But noting here.
 
A bit disappointed with power output of the 340i. Ok, not disappointed as such, just surprised it's that "low". The previous flagship 3 series (apart from the M3) was the 335i which was essentially the same engine (a twin turbo 3L straight six) and that was pushing out 225kw. An increase of only 15kw seems somehow muted.

Now this could be because they don't want it encroaching into M3 territory in terms of power but I can't see the new M3 being anything less than 310 - 320kw. The previous gen M3 (4L V8) pushed out 309kw so it would make no sense for the new one to be any less. However, I can't figure out what engine they're going to put in the new one? Is it going to be the same straight six as the 340i, just turned up to 11? If so, then this 340i is one seriously detuned car.

I guess it comes down to rands and cents at the end of the day. Why buy the M3 when for less money, you can get a car that's nearly as powerful...

This is *not* a new 3-series; it's the mid term facelift. BMW calls them the LCI (Life Cycle Impulse).

F30 came yet in 2012; this f/lift is bang on scheduled.

Cmon dude...

I won't comment on the LHD press pics you chose to supply...we are RHD-country.

The changes seem very incremental. It's beginning to look stale.

FiestaST, you should be the official motoring journalist for MyBB - as long as you find from multiple sources just to add some variety to the info. :)
