Let’s fight ad-blockers: Google executive

The IAB’s Tech Lab recently launched the L.E.A.N. Ads programme, which promotes “Light, Encrypted, Ad choice supported, Non-invasive ads”.

This is a good first step.

Most of the ads people complain about are those with popups and autoplay loud audio.

Yes !! Omf. As long as those ads exist i will continue to use an ad blocker.

Since the dawn of radio sales reps have been trying to turn us into a captive audience.

Nobody wants the freaking adverts. If we want something we look for it. Pushing it into our faces does not make us want it.

I use one, happily, much to the ire of many companies. Tough luck..

Youtube video ads is my biggest problem, and autoplaying videos/sound clips. Google ads on either side of the page doesnt really effect me that much.

That said, I disable this when watching Twitch streamers, as they could probably do with the extra income. Pewdie pie can take a hike though.

Google is late to the fight, I've been army-ing against ads for a couple of years now.

I think they're heading in the right direction to tackle the way in which ads are being forced down our throats.

I don't mind ad banners which don't interfere with websites, but when it pops up or delays me from viewing a clip then I get annoyed.

Blocking ads entirely is also not good for us. If there are no ads, there's no revenue, no incentive for google to make google maps, google translate, google search engine, just about everything else. Will you pay for google usage? For youtube access?
