Dear Steam User,

Steam will soon be priced in South African Rand!
If your Steam wallet has any money in it on November 10th, 2015, your U.S. Dollar balance will be converted to Rand, at a conversion rate dictated by market value at the time of conversion.
To view your account balance, simply log into your Steam client or the Steam website. Once you have logged in, you will see your balance in the upper-right corner next to your account name.

Thanks,
The Steam Support Team

Good? Bad?

Steam will be in Rands!

I just got a mail from steam saying that the currency will be in rands as of the 10th! Woot! If you have $'s in ur wallet it will be converted to rands at time of conversion!

Awesome news!

Awesome news? Why? I can't see any benefit in it for me?

Brings it closer to home, tax? Will we still be able to redeem steam wallet vouchers which have a dollar value to them?

IIRC, gifting games across regions still works for us right now. After the switch, that might no longer be possible. Everyone will just have to resort to topping up Steam wallets.

Where does one buy steam vouchers?

Online. Or in shops in the US. I googled it and there are co za websites that sell dollar steam vouchers for rands.

You redeem the dollar value in steam which then gets added to your steam wallet.

If there is a significant increase in rand value over dollar value, then I'm just going to buy keys from g2a from now on.

What if I WANT to pay in dollars?

I have a e-money wallet (Neteller - virtual Mastercard) which I get small amounts of money in from trading. I usually use this to buy steam games :(
