Yeah, AW has gone to **** since Dell bought them. Made with cheaper Dell-sourced components, it's a slightly more expensive XPS with an AW logo.
 
Are gaming laptops even worth it?

My HP with SSD disks and whatnot struggles to handle games like the witcher 2. I can only really play MMO's on it on normal settings.

I can't imagine a powerful mobile chip being able to outperform a standard card with proper ventilation and power.

errr... huh???

SSD is going to effect your load times, and that's about it. If your game is slow, it's going to be your graphics that is the problem.

having said that, I refuse to play the witcher 2 because the graphics engine they use is super ****ty. sure everything looks good, but the mouse pointer is not hardware accelerated so the entire menu system (including inventory) is laggy as hell. drives me freakin insane.

compare that to the likes of Shadow of Mordor, and everything is smooth as butter on exactly the same machine, with details set a lot HIGHER!!

Oh damn. That's exactly the issue I'm having. The mouse is super laggy so I thought it's the entire game.

I was wondering why guild wars, SWTOR and WoW were handling fine but my SP steam game was struggling.

Also, I only really mentioned the SSD as I'm led to believe it's the single best upgrade you can make to a stock laptop.

They are worth it depending on your circumstances. My MSI GT72 with GTX 980M runs everything perfectly smoothly on max settings.

As for outperforming a standard card, no they can't. That's just silly to suggest. They aren't designed to outperform standard cards, they're designed to use less power and generate less heat. If they used less power AND were faster there would be no need for desktop chips.

Depends what for.

It's the biggest upgrade for things that are dependent on drive performance such as booting up and opening programs. For games it makes almost 0 difference.

So it's one and the same thing, fine. It's not a mobile chip outperforming a desktop chip. It IS a desktop chip.
