Trevor Noah’s US ratings drop drastically

I was catching up a few recorded episodes last night (from his 5th episode) and I didn't find most of his jokes funny. In the beginning it can be funny for us when he makes reference to SA or Africa, but I can't think that the Americans would find that funny after the newness wears off..
 
Has Noah ever been funny? I watched him live a few years ago and his act seemed to consist of really lazy "The difference between coloured people and white people is..." gags.

Yep, he doesn't deliver it fluidly enough as though it were his own idea (my opinion). Got bored after the 3rd episode.

You're thinking that he has little input on what he says - incorrect. In the piece below, they criticise his style of humour...perhaps if he knew a bit about US politics he could make some suggestions?

While Stewart was often praised for his smart, thought-provoking sarcasm, wit and satire, Noah has been criticised for not offering the same incisive satirical observations because of his style of humour.

Alternet’s Sophia McClennan writes that Noah has taken over from “one of the most socially significant satirists” in the history of the US, and expresses doubt over whether he will make the grade. She slams Noah for seeming to only focus on finding examples of stupidity and mocking them, which she points out offers no social impact whatsoever.

We do not know what the original number was of 18-24, therefore that 20% gain could be maybe 5% in total.
A drop of more than a third of your viewers though is quite extreme.

He should remember he is in the States not in SA. All his jokes he refers to an African context which is very one dimensional. His gonna have to make more references to basketball, American football, baseball, etc. which the American public can relate to
 
Noah just keeps hammering on how bad he had it in apartheid years.

Those sorts of jokes get tiring very quickly.

That 44% increase probably consists of a large number of South Africans watching the show now.

Possibly, though the cc streams of the show aren't officially available in South Africa. He also has something like double the daily twitter mentions that John had. Obviously the shows viewership has dropped but I think it's partly because Trevor is not John, but also changing demographics and changing technology. More and more people, especially the younger generation, are consuming media online

Except he didn't. He was 10 in 1994 but makes it seem like he started doing stand-up in the middle of apartheid. Not to mention all the starving people he personally knows in SA.

I've watched the Daily Show for a few good years now and I don't see any difference in the type of content they produced when Jon was there and now, so I don't know what that critics' problem is.

A 20% gain in that demographic is huge whatever the original number was, the on-demand viewership I would say also falls within that demographic. Either way Trevor is a hit with millennial viewers.

Agree, have never found Jon Stewart to be laugh out loud funny, enjoyed him because he was amusing and very on point with his critique. Trevor is much the same, personally I prefer John Oliver these days over either of them.
