Hi guys. I just want to ask here. I have spoken to Telkom call center to enquire about how much it would cost to convert my contract number to prepaid. I am still in contract. The cost is R1800 about. I am just curious now because was Telkom not one of the operators like Cell C that said they only charge you for the remainder of the handset balance and the rest is 0 rated? When I took out this contract I got like a really cheap and nasty Samsung :wtf:

Or is Telkom not one of those and they charge you for the remainder of your subs also?

Hi Ockie,

The charges will carry the cancellation admin fees, contract remainder of the term and your device fees.

All this are calculated based on the term of your contract and only cancellation team can break it down for you in details.

Ok thank you for the reply. I suppose Telkom was not one of the operators then that said they do not charge the remainder of the subs, just the balance outstanding on the handset.

Thank you kindly.

Just did a search. Something is not right.

So considering the cheap ass phone I should maybe pay like R1000.00 including the R800.00 admin fee. Where is that other R800.00 coming from? I am confused. The person I spoke to on the phone also said I can only cancel by going into a store. Why? With Vodacom you can do it telephonically, they email you the quote with the break down, you sign, you pay, you fax/email the docs back and boom ... it is done. Why must we go into a store? What if you took out a Telkom contract while on holiday in a city and took out a contract. Going to have to drive from Springbok to Cape Town to cancel your contract? :wtf:

Hi Ockie,

Please let us clarify everything for you.

Kindly PM the number in question that you would like us to cancel so that we can escalate to our cancellations team to conduct a concise quoting and the fees for your cancellation.

Note the break down will be explained to you in detail and why such amounts are charged.

Thank you. I will PM my number to you. I dont want it cancelled just yet. I want to check the breakdown of the fees first and then make a decision from there.

Thank you for your assistance.

Even vodacom employees use TM? :D

I have never made a secret about it. /shurg

I am however considering porting back to Vodacom. Having to switch my phone between MTN and TM to get signal in certain places is really starting to P me off and I can work out a killer deal for myself seeing that I have a new phone I bought cash not so long ago.

Was in Rosebank mall thinking I will quickly pop in there to get the quote. Waited 35 minutes only to be told they have to log a call. This after being told by the call centre I have to go to the store. honestly. Apart from the signal being a annoyance now I am just pissed.

I give up. My god .... can it really be this difficult to get a proper cancelation quote printed? jesus.

Thank you.

The call center quoted me R1800.00 and this does not match the quote you sent me. Yours is cheaper. I will wait for my contract to finish and then reassess whether I will be moving back to Vodacom or not.

Your assistance is appreciated.
