Inside MultiChoice’s cool new offices

Can I redeem my Discovery insure vouchers at their Vida-E-Caffe?

offices try to look modern and inviting but still looks cold and very robotic

And this folks, is where your annual increase money goes.

While I applaud their green initiative, I can't help but wonder if MC's Media Department have evolved far enough to have opposable thumbs. In the last seven days, they've issued warnings to DStv subscribers that a weak Rand is going to hurt come April and just today, ShowMax started making the same noises. Weak Rand, times are tough for us, this is going to cost you... 30 minutes later, here you go folks, marvel at our shiny new R250M building.
I'm not calling this bad media planning, I'm saying there is no planning going on here at all.

Why do I get the distinct sense from the content and tone of the last year of MyBB articles that Naspers has become a major sponsor of the forum?

So that is why they charge such exorbitant fees... To pay for new offices.

And this folks, is where your annual increase money goes.

While I dislike Multichoice as much as the next person, this argument can apply to any successful company. I got to see pics and info about many big SA IT firms in their annual IT careers fair at NMMU, and many of them have really nice premises. Gym, cafeteria, free food, crèche, squash courts, modern design etc. aren't uncommon.

Nice offices help attract and retain employees, and if done well also assist productivity. The Googleplex and Apple's new spaceship campus are both absolutely epic - do we deride those companies as a result?

These are all just press releases.

MyBB know that by running these articles its going to grind our nuts and we will do much venting in the forum.

A busy forum is a happy forum.

Just for the sake of accuracy: none of those articles were MultiChoice or Naspers initiatives. I wrote all of them of my own free will after asking the various companies for their comment on the matter (you will notice comment from VU in the ShowMax-rand article).

The DStv price increase article was my own prediction based on information I have from inside the industry.

Can't speak for Google, but as a Mac guy I I've been watching keynotes for ages... You know what amazes me every time? When Steve or Tim get to the prices of the new gear they're introducing. Annual price increase? Doesn't happen... More often than not, it's a price decrease.
Locally, Core jump on the weak Rand bandwagon real fast, but Apple US, not so much.

Correction: very few of the recent articles mentioning Naspers companies were press releases, if I recall correctly. I sourced and/or confirmed much of the information and wrote the articles.

Some of the information did come from previous comment that other journalists at MyBroadband asked for, but the bottom-line is that it is originally sourced, for your reading pleasure.

Won't deny that we know there is interest in DStv and MultiChoice. While the negative comments are predictable and entertaining, I'm not convinced all the interest we see on these types of articles is negative.

Thanks for the clarification Jan.

Some Apple products are good value, but many are not. Apple can afford to maintain the attractive price points they want with the overall margins they have. This is a company with over $200bn in cash.

And, as per most folk on this forum, DStv will be charging R800,00 per month, or more, for Rugby, BPL and F1 come April... That's nearly R10 000,00 a year for sport.

The price isn't what's important - the value for money is. Think of how many hours of entertainment that is for someone who is an avid sport watcher.

Sure, the price has been climbing too much in recent years, but everyone I know still has DSTV. Sport is a big deal.

A tipping point for price will come and online will evolve... This particular mansion of glory is for GOtv, the digital terrestrial temple MC hope the poorest of the poor come worship and tithe at for years to come.
