Vodacom Smart More Data contracts – the details

They can really do better. I recently received a bill of R2000 for using out of bundle rates which I tried to fight, but in the end just gave up. I receive an sms when I reach my 200mb limit and then I use the vodacom app to check everyday and try to keep within limits until I receive my new allocation. The totals on the app is however not the same as the billing I then opted to also check using *111#, but the same thing happened. It seems that vodacom wants you to use out of bundle rates.

I have been looking at Vodacom's prices for pure data packages.
Topup interests me the most as no voice or other things added:
Seriously considering moving all my contracts to pure data as lately I spend around 20 minutes at the most making phone calls.
Wish I had other options that work in my location.
Lapsed to month to month and there is nothing below that tempts me to go back into a contract nor do they have any hardware that would tempt me to do so.

2GB 24 Month Data Top Up Price Plan
R109/month 24 month contract
2GB 12 Month Data Top Up Price Plan
R149/month 12 month contract

3GB 24 Month Data Top Up Price Plan
R169/month 24 month contract
3GB 12 Month Data Top Up Price Plan
R189/month 12 month contract

5GB 24 Month Data Top Up Price Plan
R259/month 24 month contract
5GB 12 Month Data Top Up Price Plan
R289/month 12 month contract

10GB 24 Month Data Top Up Price Plan
R499/month 24 month contract
10GB 12 Month Data Top Up Price Plan
R549/month 12 month contract

20GB 24 Month Data Top Up Price Plan
R999/month 24 month contract
20GB 12 Month Data Top Up Price Plan
R999/month 12 month contract

Edit:
I would not even consider the options in the article.

In the contract fine print does it say yet whether the data can or cannot be used for facebook and whatsapp? I assume it's just a matter of time...

Cell C 2GB + 3GB Midnight @ R99 for the top up version (sim only)
Recharge that with airtime and get a call rate of 99/105c (i think)
Im getting LTE speeds at home, at work (no LTE) Cell C beats MTN hands down on signal strength and speeds.

Vodacom and MTN are a joke.

Is this a joke?
On prepaid (their prepaid plan) I get 3GB for R299 add R55 airtime, costs me about R354 for 3GB data and 69 minutes (0.79c per minute package) this is much better than their smart more 2GB packagage. Another epic fail by Vodacom!

Vodacom is R10 more for 2gb on a 2 year contract.
How long is the contract you mention?

Topup Contract you would Pay R169pm for 3GB from Vodacom...

12 or 24 month same price. Cell C will charge me nothing to cancel at a months notice.
Yea I think cpa would prevent vodacom from charging you if you get it without a device as well.

Cell c don't work in my area so the extra bit is worth it.

When did you last do a test. I actually had endless problems with signal at home (zero data connectivity) only till about a month ago.
Now getting LTE averaging 30mbps and i stay in a suburb that no corporation knows exists or gives a damn about...
I'm very impressed

Not for a while.
I challenged vodacoms opposition here to see if any would be willing to send me sim cards as I am not going through that Rica crap yet again to test.

Done it many times and never works.
Telkom, MTN, cellc, so many Rica forms...

What area are you in. Maybe just get one of those pre-rica sims from the vendors.

EPIC! What's the point of a contract if it doesn't give you better value than prepaid. Are these on net minutes on the package? Sheeeshh if that's the case.
