I truly understand now why people rave about Sennheiser products.
Here is why…
So I am aware that the product is released in late 2012, but compared to today, it is still a great choice. The Sennheiser HD 439 retails at R1200 (reference Loot). That said, there is other options also to look at, for example: ATH-M30x, Sony V55 and Skullcandy Crusher only to name a few.
First Impressions
The packaging… Not so premium for the price tag, expected better. But hey, it is not the looks that count, but the performance/results. Got two 3.5mm cables, one 1,4m and the second 3m. A 6.3mm adapter plug is also included.
Holding the headset and I can immediately feel how light it is. The whole structure is basically plastic. Ear cups feels great and soft. Like the design of the cup’s outside with the mesh and Sennheiser logo in the middle.
Sound
I have read reviews that stated you need to burn them in, which I did. I listened to a variety of genres including EDM, Pop, Progressive House, Classic and Piano music. The sound is really amazing, especially when I listened to the piano music. High was very clear, as well as the vocals. In terms of bass, is not over powering and the lows & mids were clear. Noise cancellation is not too bad either, not fully isolated, but keeps most sounds out. The headphones is loud, as I only listen on 36% volume.
Comfort
As for comfort, it is extremely comfy! I found myself listening for 2 hours without my ears getting warm or uncomfortable. Sennheiser did a darn good job on the ear cups, kudos for that.
Design
Although it is mainly plastic, it is still not a bad looking product. The headphone is not too big nor to small. I personally have a small head and small ears. It fits me perfectly without sitting too cramped or too loose.
Conclusion
The HD 439 is a decent set of headphones. Very pleased with the quality I received. If I can point out one downside, a carry bag would had been great, otherwise happy.
