So - good, bad, what? Currently with Kingprice but it's time for reviewing offerings from other providers (this is something I do on a regular basis whether I end up swapping or not).

What are your impressions of both insurance companies? I bank with FNB and private clients blah blah - does that make any tangible difference to their offering?

I was with Discovery insure, was the cheapest by far at the time, I can't comment on their claiming process though as I never needed to claim. I had my car and content and extra goods insurance with them, their call center and agents weer always very good though. I didn't even know FNB still had insurance. Would be interesting to hear what the reviews are for FNB?

FNB is just a broker as far as I know. They don't actually provide insurance directly.

Was with Discovery, they were cheaper but after three years have priced themselves out for me and not really willing to negotiate. Had two claims - small knock on wifes car that third party paid out and a hijacking with mine. Process seemed ok but not wowed.

Personally I think Discovery are slowing down with folks . I'm even considering canning my discovery card as the money back is not worth what it was and rather take the saving up front. Only thing worthwhile at the moment for me was airfair. Even car hire was cheaper elsewhere.

Yeah, looks like FNB are underwritten and administered via Auto & General.

Who, (granted it was something like 15 years ago) only paid out about half of what my car was worth when it got written off.

Switched to Santam and whilst I've only had a few minor-ish claims over the years with them, they've been fantastic and they always just approve everything with no drama.

I got a quote from FNB for insurance through my private banker. They are underwritten by Hollard, and saves me about R400 a month, might be worth a shot. I've never had a claim with my current insurer (Oakhurst) so I don't know about their claiming either.
