Hi guys
I'm looking to upgrade the sound on my PC...I've just upgraded my mobo/processor and was using an ASUS Xonar DG in my old pc, which now does not fit on this mobo (PCI vs PCIe) and my GFX card partially obstructs the PCI slot.

I use my PC a lot for music and some gaming, and the on-board sound is not the greatest right now. I'm using oldish Logitech X 530's and have a 10 inch car sub driven by a 250W Lightening Audio amp, and am thinking of buying some decent 6" car speakers and ditching the X 530's.
I frequently use my headphones when the family gets the sh*ts with the windows rattling while they're trying to study/watch TV, but the onboard sound card does nothing for the headphones..

So, I think my best bet here is a USB sound card or a some sort of DAC? I'm seriously considering the ASUS Xonar U7
or a Dragonfly DAC, both of which seem to be hens teeth here

Any comments or suggestions where I could look?

Cheers

Or if you really have a tight budget:

Hi Chevron, thanks for that. I have looked at those and others, but my problem is that my GFX card, a GTX 750 ti, is obstructing my PCIe slot  hence my need for a "outboard" USB type sound-card.

I actually just sold my Emotiva XDA-1 DAC and a cheap USB > Optical conversion 'sound card'. Also sold an XDA-2 2 months back.

I think it may have been ideal - but check out www.avforums.co.za for used DACs

I have the Asus U7. It's a great little thing. I paid R1.1k for it - the exchange has really messed up our prices. :(
