As of three days ago I keep getting SMSes from www.paymytv.co.za stating that my TV license is overdue. I don't even own a TV so this is very suspicious. Does anyone know if they are even affiliated with the SABC or is this just a scam?

Your TV license is overdue. Pay now to help us bring you hours of entertainment. Pay via www.paymytv.co.za or dial *120*3696# and claim rewards

Please respond. My small business is just starting up. I got your number from the cell-shop where you processed your upgrade recently.

It seems to be related to a company called CCS...

They're sneaky in that they hide that inside a T&C's document rather than on their site.

Had sms's from them in Jan/Feb but just added them to my spam filter.

EDIT: I see I had one today again but it went to the spam folder.

Got one on each of the last 3 days.
I mark it as a spam number, and delete the message.

CCS shall not be liable for any breach of data protection, privacy or security legislation that may ensue pursuant to the
Subscriber/ User's participation in any activity provided or made possible by this service.

In other words if you use their service and your details "accidently" get sold... sorry stolen, then you have no recourse. How can a company use SABC branding, yet there is nothing on the SABC web site to acknowledge that this company is affiliated to them.

I have a number that has never been used for any purpose other than data. Yet I get an SMS to say that my license has expired. Never owner a license, never paid a license, never used my number for any purpose other than data. They get your details from RICA. Assume that you have had a tv license then try extort money from you.

Funny how most of these companies don't have their numbers listed on SMS C.O.D.E.S

I bought a new prepaid Sim a few years back, and the day i activated it, I got an sms that i needed to pay some clothing account or i would be blacklisted... I called them out of curiosity, and it turned out it was a completely different name.

someone had filled out a form with a bogus number, or the number had been recycled. I got the Sms re my TV license, http://co.za/cgi-bin/whois.sh?Domain=paymytv&Enter=Enter the domain is registered to some proxy organization, where as SABC.co.za is more legit

https://paynow.tvlic.co.za/ this is also the page thats linked to from the SABC website .. this seems a bit Scammy to me

As other users have mentioned, sabc.co.za links to tvlic.co.za, and not to this site, so can't be legit.

Surely there must be a way to get the domain taken down?
