If I didn't know any better (and I don't) I'd say that's more an ad than an article.

Why all the negativity? Even if Whatsapp on pc is only an extension of your phone, it is still a great way to communicate. It is much easier to type from a keyboard than from a phone and you won't easily miss messages.

but there is no point, if you can do exactly the same with the browser extension

It's native in that it doesn't rely on a web browser like the other options do.

It would be awesome if WhatsApp moved to the cloud properly and did away with tethering. If they didn't store media online it wouldn't take up that much space. They could even use it as an opportunity to monetise their users - I'm sure many people would happily pay a nominal fee to have their entire WhatsApp in the cloud with independent PC functionality.

Yeah but HTH do you still end up missing messages with the plethora of options available already? There's a web notification API already and Chrome (probably other browsers aswell) supports it. Only MS Edge added it yesterday with the new Windows 10 insider build

The aim of facebook was to have whatsapp completely free, remember there used to be a price tag of like $1 which most Android users could bypass by continually updating the app but iPhone users had to buy whatsapp from the Apple Store.

Also I'm thinking storing 30 to 50 BILLION messages every day would be crazy but should be possible. I'm not too fond of completely moving to the cloud anyway.
 
Web version is good enough thank you, wil not be needing yet another application on my PC
 
Will it work on my newly aquired Lenovo T420 with Win 7 Pro. Complete novice here. If so how do I know where to download from ?
 
Thanks. Did that but it first had to download something called netfx....do I need that program or must I uninstall it and try again ? Get screen which shows barcode then I hit a wall.... WA shortcut appeared on desktop but only opens to barcode screen.

You need to link it to whatsapp on your phone, by scanning the barcode with your phone within WhatsApp. The web application can not be used stand alone
 
Thanks all. Got it working. Pinned to taskbar. Now how to get shortcut to desktop ?
 
I think that new 3310 could WhatsApp, it'd be more than a nostalgic gimmick
