Steam connection lost every 5-10 min.

Please advise:-
Telkom at this stage they changed my ADSL to Fibre so data also through Telkom
Netgear vevg2660 vdsl2 router
Every 5min I lose connection to Steam

Try this:

-Close steam
-Delete clientregistry.blob in steam folder
-Delete above file from recycle bin
-Reboot router
-Open steam.

Hi Rickster
Tried that but still get the message connection to the game timed out, click ok/continue and I can immediately go back into the game from the games list?

Are you losing internet connection when steam is not connected ? (leave a twitch stream running and see if it goes off when steam goes off).

Hi
Nope connection is still there I just get kicked off the game (connection to the game timed out) but I go back in immediately through the games list.

Sounds more of an ISP issue than line issue.
 
Try to establish PPPoE session directly from your PC into the ONT to exclude the vevg2660.

The Afrihost account should also work, unless you are trying to use the free 1 GB account?

Steam runs stable for me on Telkom Internet.

Hi th0rn - thanks for the reply
I now tried my normal Afrihost account (not the free 1gig as you mentioned) and yes connection was made - so that's sorted.
I then tried Steam again and again after 5min (it seems 5min is the continuous time) I get Connection to the game timed out.

Did you try a PPPoE session directly from your PC as well?

Nope thanks for the suggestion but I'm a noob when it comes to these things.

However it's not my Steam because on mobile backup router it doesn't do this so it's either the router Telkom gave me, it's settings or the line/restrictions.

I'll phone them tomorrow.
 
Nope it was the Router, Netgear, they replaced with Aztech and seems fine now.
 
I have the same problem and was able to find a workaround, but it's not ideal.

If I setup my PC to be a DMZ server in the NETGEAR router, everything works fine. I know this is not advised, but I'm still behind another router, the Alcatel Lucent that is connected to the fibre line. To me this implies that their should be another way around this problem. Anyone have suggestions? Unfortunately the DMZ only works for 1 computer.

I have tried port forwarding.
 
Had my fibre installed this week, experiencing exactly the same issues. Also have the Netgear VEVG2660. Any solutions?
