Basically wanting to know how much data I can use before getting throttled. Due to complicated reasons mweb is our only option.

It's 250GB on the 10Mbps uncapped so I would guess between 400GB-500GB.

Hi jamiehlake, our 20Mbps uncapped package has a download threshold of approximately 400GB over a 30 day rolling window.

just curious, then why call it uncapped, since if we know it has a 400GB soft cap, then we can just as well get the 400GB package which actually works out cheaper.

We/South Africa really need to either do UNCAPPED and I mean really do it, download as much as you can, as your line speed allows you to or get rid of this "uncapped" offering as it is NOT uncapped.

Hi georgelza, what happens to a capped users browsing experiencing once they've exceeded the amount of data they've paid for? Usage will be capped and they won't be able to access the Internet until purchasing a Data Booster. With uncapped on the other hand, users are throttled and still allowed to connect to the Internet. Just at slower speeds.

MWEB continues to rip off it's customers by deliberately excluding figures for 'fair rate usage' limits (30 days rolling window) and monthly prices including line rental from it's website.
I got these figures today after much pressure on their customer service site and sales person.
4 Mbps Uncapped:
Standard 110 Gb R 469
Standard Plus 175 Gb R 569
Premium 400 Gb R 769
20 Mbps uncapped:
Standard 400 Gb
Premium 2000 Gb

Because not everyone can afford the proper uncapped packages. They do exist. You just don't want to pay for them.

Just in case anyone was wondering what "Slower speeds" infers, think trying to load MyBB with a dial up connection.

Also if you are stuck with Mweb do yourself and buy a aftermarket router, that piece of junk they give you for free can't handle more than two connections without sending your latency through the rough.

20Mbps uncapped

If that is the case... why am I being throttled on my 20Mbps uncapped at a mere 190GB for the 30 days...

Please try to respond quickly as I do require a quick connection to do my work...

I am being throttled at usage of 190GB for 30 days... on the same 20Mbps uncapped, why do I get throttled at half of the allowed threshold?

are you being throttled or maybe something wrong with line?

does your router stats look fine?

tried another ISP account to test?

I checked on MWeb's website under the "My Account" section and it states that my connection status is "throttled", even though I have only used 190GB in the 30 day window...

There is nothing wrong with the line, I had Vumatel here a week ago (for another reason, I wasn't throttled then) and they confirmed that the line is working perfectly.

And for those wondering: My speed is now 4Mbps, so it seems like MWeb's throttling is pretty harsh.

Move to Telkom, they probably have one of the fairest FUPs out there.

They tell you upfront what the limits are and if you do get throttled you also get two priority passes in a month.

With your line speed you will only be throttled at 900GB down to 10Mb/s and then only between 19:00-21:00

Thank you for helping, but I am still in a contract with them and I can't switch just now... But I am definitely considering moving to a different ISP.

if you could move to any other isp I would go with cool ideas, no throttling at all and uncapped too.

Agree 100% with you. Coolideas at face value might look R100-R150 more expensive than some of these other providers but you dont deal with any throttling issues or any restrictions for that matter. The little bit extra paid is well worth avoiding all the extra headaches you end up with going to slightly cheaper route.
