Hey guys.

So, a good friend of mine was generous enough to give me his old Mweb Router, about 6+ months old. My current ISP is AfriHost. I'm not able to add a new connection. Does anybody know how I can flash the firmware and install something generic?

I've tried tutorial on a previous thread on mybb with no luck. That post was a few years back, so I'm assuming that isn't likely to work anymore.

Any assistance would be gladly appreciated, I like trying to get things to work before I purchase a new router.

Hi SabzTheIceCreamMan, I wouldn't recommend flashing the firmware on our Fon routers as you might just brick the router. After applying your ISP account details to the routers settings, does it revert back to MWEB details? Please PM me the corresponding router serial number so that I can look into this for you.

I also had one of those and also used it on Afrihost. I think you might be doing something wrong...

Follow this site exactly as is and you will do fine !!

Lots of new features are introduced with the original firmware, also make sure you plug into the exact port on the router.

Hey blowdart18,

I'm having issues with the firmware file, Does the bootfile appear automatically? I've copied it into the tftpd directory (C - Program files - Tftpd32). It shows blank.

question, does flashing with the modded firmware retain the FON functionality?
Cant quite be sure if the FON functionality is linked to the router itself or your ISP account.

If you flash it FON goes away.

Hi Guys im new to this forum and hope you can help me.

I was given a TG589vn v3 router from a buddy of my as my current router was acting up.
I have tried to set up Guest WiFi access but cannot seem to find anything in the routers configurations. Does anyone know if this router has this capability? If not is there any other way of doing this.

Thanks

I decided to take my TG589v3 out the drawer it's be tucked away in for more than a year, out and try to flash it with generic firmware.

I've done everything to the T as explained in the tutorial linked above, Firewall is disabled, static IP assigned, router reset to factory defaults, firmware in the correct root used the correct network port etc etc.

As soon as I configure TFTPD64 hit okay and reset the router, the blue light comes on, but that's about all that happens. No popup that indicates it's flashing the firmware.

Am I missing something?

EDIT: Think I've got it working, flashing as I type.

Now i cant connect?

Changed my ip back default.
Just shows a red light then no light :/

Old post I know, but did you ever sort this issue out?

Flashed mine today, and I have the same issue. Error according to the router is "failed to bring up link" or "Access Error: 500 Internal server error" no matter how many resets, factory resets or swearing I do it just won't connect.

Hi

Pls help. Trying to flash mine. Failed. After configuring tfpd. What do i do? Reseting the router does nothing.

I tried this, and succeeded. Then after trying for hours to configure this POS router I tossed it in the bin.

Absolutely the worst piece of junk router I've ever worked with.

Do yourselves a favour and buy another router. Anything, just not this thing. It's garbage.
