MTN prevented customers from porting to us: Cell C

“The application dealt with MTN’s introduction of an extra step in the porting process, making it extremely difficult for customers attempting to port to Cell C and resulting in a massive increase of rejected ports,” said Cell C.

One more reason NOT to sign up with MTN...

It took me 1 month to port my Dad from MTN to Telkom. MTN sent a confirmation sms to the porting number, where you have to reply with "1", but when we reply, nothing. MTN claim not to have received the reply. This happened 3 times. Eventually I had to get through to Telkoms porting department, initiate the request, phone MTN's porting department and manually approve the port.

To get a hold of both departments, and get it approved was such a mission. MTN was not very helpful in facilitating the process, actually felt like they were neglecting the request as you have already decided to leave their crappy network.

"Furthermore, MTN would like to note that it intends to have the matter heard by ICASA as soon as possible so as to get to a conclusion that is to the benefit of subscribers,”

I am wondering which subscribers MTN is trying to benefit. The ones leaving or the ones staying put. just found my 100th reason not to go with MTN

Why did ICASA not fine them like the Nigerians did? R1 000 000 per customer that is not ported seems fair? ICASA does nothing for the consumer, they are just a tax collecting agency that prints little stickers to put on wireless devices that they "approve" of.

ICASA should be driving down the cost of communicating, improving communication quality and standards, ensure the fast and effective roll out of data services i.e. LTE, but they do none of those things. Literally, none.

Maybe MTN is running scared, and want to retain most of their customers come hell or high water...

CellC shouldnt talk

When i moved 2 numbers from CellC to Telkom they blocked both of them from receiving calls. Basically they just ported the data side and when i complained they said its not their problem. My numbers belonged to them.

After that i decided i will never go back to CellC

Uhm maybe youre a bit lost. It wasnt a million for not porting. It was a million per non rica'd user. This was to combat criminals.

My dad had to cancel his Afrihost contract because Vodacom couldn't port him to MTN correctly. He couldn't receive calls from Vodacom whilst on MTN's network. Vodacom said it's an MTN issue because my dad isn't in their system anymore, and MTN said only Vodacom can fix the issue because it relates to the Vodacom network.

After months of fighting with everyone, my dad ported back to Vodacom and everything worked perfectly again. He's going to try leaving again - who knows if it will work.

MTN simply rejected my port a couple of times on different numbers and a couple of times on the same numbers. I'm glad the law has caught up with them.
