The updated model is in SA. Pricing has jumped up a fair bit. A 2/3 yr old pre-f/lift makes a good value case:

Pricing for facelifted Chevrolet Trailblazer released

Chevrolet South Africa has released pricing for its facelifted Trailblazer range, which grows from four derivatives to five.

The local line-up now features a new flagship model in the form of the Z71, which is based on the LTZ 4×4, but gains plenty of distinctive exterior updates (most notably,”blacked-out” wheels, door handles and mirrors, as well as a set of decals). Pricing starts from R464 000 and runs through to R623 200.

Furthermore, the 2,5-litre LT model can now be had with a six-speed automatic transmission, too. In this guise, its turbo-diesel mill makes 132 kW and 440 N.m (as opposed to the 120 kW and 380 N.m on tap in the manual model).

The other three variants employ the brand’s 2,8-litre turbo-diesel engine, which makes 144 kW and 500 N.m (interestingly, the manual model with this engine falls away).

In addition to the subtly updated styling, Chevrolet SA says the upgraded Trailblazer benefits from improved refinement, a new power steering system, additional driver aids (on top-spec models), a “more upmarket” cabin, the MyLink 2,0 multimedia interface, and new daytime running lights.

Are these improvements enough for the Chevy to take on the strong-selling Toyota Fortuner? Well, look out for the November issue of CAR magazine for a first comparative test of these two SUVs…

That's the price of a town house? In which town is that? That's barely the cost of a 1 bedroom flat. In fact that car is almost as big as a 1 bedroom flat over here.

The bakkie-based SUV market has been quite competitive since a new version of the Toyota Fortuner and an updated Ford Everest landed in South Africa. Not to be outdone, Chevrolet has facelifted its Trailblazer and adjusted the range's lineup. Here are the specifications and pricing of the new Chevrolet Trailblazer.

The Chevrolet Trailblazer is a 7-seater lifestyle SUV and for the 2017 model year, General Motors has reworked the range to now consist of five derivatives, including manual and automatic versions of the rear-wheel-drive 2.5-litre LT, rear- and four-wheel-drive automatic versions of the 2.8 LTZ and a new flagship in the shape of the Z71, which is a blinged-up version of the LTZ 4x4.

“The new Trailblazer brings together superior levels of refinement, styling, comfort and technology with class-leading performance and drivability to meet the versatile needs of increasingly discerning customers,” said Brian Olson, vice president vehicles sales, service and marketing General Motors Sub-Saharan Africa.

Upgraded engines/technical specs

The Trailblazer engine range consists of 2 motors; a 2.5-litre turbodiesel and a 2.8-litre turbodiesel. The 2.5-litre now delivers 132 kW and 440 Nm when paired with an automatic transmission in the LT model. Chevrolet is claiming the 2.5-litre automatic Trailblazer will consume 8.6 L/100 km and it will accelerate from zero to 100 kph in 11 seconds. It has a limited top speed of 180 kph. The standard 2.5-litre turbodiesel motor does duty in the 2.5-litre LT when paired with a 6-speed manual gearbox. It produces 120 kW and 380 Nm, will take 11.8 seconds to reach 100 kph and is claimed to consume just 7.6 L/100 km.

The other engine is a 2.8-litre turbodiesel 4 cylinder with peak outputs of 144 kW and 500 Nm. Chevrolet claims that this 6-speed automatic Trailblazer will accelerate from zero to 100 kph in 10.4 seconds.

Meanwhile, the 2.5-litre manual has a tow rating of 2 515 kg, while the rest of the range can pull a braked trailer weighing up to 2 965 kg. The 4-wheel drive LTZ models are equipped low range transfer cases, with two-high, four-high, and four-low drive modes just a turn of a console dial away. Other changes include a new electronic power steering system, which is said to be smoother in feel and more responsive to inputs.

New MyLink infotainment system

The new infotainment system comes in the form of a second-generation MyLink that is compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. This system allows smartphone connectivity as well as USB and Bluetooth connections. One great feature of this is that phone-based navigation such as Google Maps can be displayed on the screen, while top-spec LTZ models feature built-in satnav.

Safety-wise, all derivatives are equipped with ABS with EBD and brake assist, HBFA (hydraulic brake fade assist), 7 airbags (including a driver's knee airbag), pre-tensioning seatbelts, ISOfix child seat anchors and front park assist. LTZ models benefit from the addition of Stabilitrak electronic stability/traction control, HDC (hill descent control), TSC (trailer sway control) and a rear-mounted camera parking assistance system, but now features forward collision alert, lane departure warning, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alert and tyre pressure monitoring too.

In terms of after-sales backup, every derivative comes with a 5-year/120 000 km warranty as well as a 5-year/90 000 km service plan.

It is perfectly possible if you are prepared to live in less desirable or outlying suburbs, e.g. Alberton in JHB or Bellville in CPT.

Chevrolet flagship SUV receives a number of cosmetic and mechanical upgrades.

The new range comprises five manual and automatic versions of the rear-wheel-drive 2.5-litre LT, rear and four-wheel-drive auto and manual versions of the 2.8 LTZ and a new flagship in the shape of the Z71, based on the LTZ 4x4.

Prices start from R464 000 to R623 200 for the Z71, which pays homage to Chevrolet’s rich ‘Zee’ car performance heritage.

Brian Olson, vice president of vehicles sales, service and marketing for General Motors Sub-Saharan Africa, said: “The new Trailblazer brings together superior levels of refinement, styling, comfort and technology with class-leading performance and drivability to meet the versatile needs of increasingly discerning customers.”

The Trailblazer’s 132kW/440Nm 2.5-litre turbodiesel engine, mated to a six-speed auto (in LT trim), has a fuel consumption figure of 8.6-litres/100km. Acceleration from 0 to 100km/h takes 11.0 seconds with a top speed limited to 180km/h.

The 2.5-litre Duramax four-cylinder turbo-diesel engine remains in the 2.5 LT when matched with the six-speed manual. Power is rated at 120kW/380Nm. Combined fuel consumption is 7.6-litres/100 km, 0-100km/h is dispatched in 11.8sec and top speed is limited to 180 km/h.

Top-of-the-range variants are equipped with the 2.8-litre Duramax Turbo-diesel engine boasting 144kW/500Nm, which can be coupled with a six-speed auto or manual.

Combined fuel consumption for the 2.8-litre is 9.5-litres/100km. Acceleration from 0 to 100km/h takes 10.4sec with a top speed limited to 180 km/h.

Chevrolet’s trademark ‘bowtie bar’ is now wider and the upper and lower grille sections run the full width of the front. Wider tyres (255mm width compared to 245 previously) on new 17” wheels are fitted to LT derivatives, while LTZ versions retain 18” wheels with a glossy black design for the Z71.

The SUV has five charging points for devices and eight cup holders. It also features aircon for passengers in all three rows. Leather upholstery is fitted as standard across the range.

Another feature available on all models fitted with auto transmissions is Remote Vehicle Start, which allows the engine to be switched on from the outside using the buttons on the key fob, says Chevrolet.

Luggage capacity ranges from 205-litres with all three rows of seats upright, 1229L with the third row down, to 1830L with the second and third row seats folded flat.
