BMW motorcycle of the future unveiled

I want to see that "self balancer" and feedback system stop a taxi skipping a robot, avoid a pothole or save a rider running out of talent around a sharp bend at too high a speed.

Or big rain drops, rocks or those hard beetles.

I like the idea of the feedback system.

but the self balancing is kinda silly.

its design by committee. clearly the people who spent resources on self balancing were not riders themselves.

Balancing a bike is the least of the riders worries. and wearing a helmet is an opportunity to integrate more smart technology into it. we Know BMW was working on something sililar to the skully AR1.

now there is a piece of tech I would love to get my hands on, but they have gone bust unfortunately

Yep. Their logic doesn't make sense. They seem to argue that you will not fall over because of the bike's nice balance system, and therefore you need no helmet. Yet quad riders wear helmets, and they have four wheels, which is pretty much an excellent balance system as it is.

Well, their argument according to the article. Probably way more to it.

Nah, give me an oldstyle bike, much more fun.

And yes, idiots will still jump red lights etc. It is up to you to be aware at all times, not rely on the bike to save you from some moron's bad decision.

They should involve motorcyclists in the process of designing these things.

I can't imagine a single rider I know wanting a self balancing bike, much less desire to ride at any kind of speed without a helmet. Myself included.

The HUD is dope though.

Motorcycles already self balance.

I don't know why but non-riders have this bizarre notion that people on bikes are actively involved in keeping them upright which really simply isn't the case.

Also there are negatives to this notion of it staying up...like exiting corners at high speeds when making a mistake because it didn't crash like it currently would.

Beyond Americans and their right to freedom bull**** I also can't fathom why anyone would want to forego a helmet. It's seriously uncomfortable in open air but beyond that when it gets hot the sun bakes you and when it rains the water in your eyes isn't going to be fun either.

But then this is aimed at poser who do maybe 5km to the coffee shop once a month. It's all a hocus pocus marketing effort.

I agree ,
But my ABS and slipper clutch has saved my ass a few times .

I don't think people remember being kids and free-wheeling no hands on a bicycle...
