New MacBook Pro unveiled – absolutely incredible

My prediction. The top end 15" is going to cost more than R50000 in SA.

about a year ago the top spec 15" was going for about R70000 plus (think it was around R72000).

edit: and the crap part was you cant buy a lower spec one and upgrade it yourself. bought the older model macbook pro instead.
 
I wouldn't call it incredible. It's a nice upgrade from the previous model though, assuming those butterfly switches on the keyboard don't feel like those on the MacBook (Tim said they'd improved them).

I'd still take a Microsoft Surface Book i7 over the new MBP.

yea, I would love to see how the resale-ability of macbooks are affected since the no upgrade capabilities came in. I certainly looked at second hand ones and while some were nicely priced they didnt have the specs I needed.
 
You have to give it to them - who else can sell BSD on the desktop and be the most successful tech company in the world at the same time. They innovate and make pretty gadgets. Blame the sheeple if you have to, but don't blame Apple for their success.

Checked on Apple.com and it does not look like RAM is upgradable past 16GB, and its DDR3, for something that costs more than a basic car its quite steep. (Comparing the highest model with upgrades)

looks like the base is 8gb and the max you can go to is 16gb. unless more than 16gb is a special order item.

edit: I do find it silly though that for machines geared at more advanced/power users the memory is so little. start a couple of virtuals and its all gone :(

DDR3? It doesn't look good.
 
As a long time MBP user... I'm not that impressed or sold on the touch bar. Microsoft has been pushing convergence(tablet/touch) and finally cracked it, Apple hmm, are they headed in the right direction? time will tell.
