Apple launches Touch Disease fix for iPhone 6 Plus

"We'll give you a possibly faulty device and when it breaks, we'll charge your more than R1k to fix our mistake." -apple

:wtf:

Seriously dude. It is not a faulty device, it is just a poorer design. If the phone is not dropped, the problem will not manifest. It is a compromise by Apple for charging a reasonable fee for what is an expensive repair. (Go educate yourself on some Youtube videos to see exactly why the 6 is susceptible to this kind of damage).

Really?
I don't know of anyone who has not dropped a phone. For R15k (or whatever the 6 plus cost when it was released) I'd not want it to have this "poor design" if it happens to fall.
"The screen won't break, but your 3d thingie will...because 'poor design'...now give us your money."
Wow.

"You're dropping your phone wrong." -apple
:p

I have the 6, never dropped. Had it for 3 weeks and it had this issue. Took it back, they gave me a new one. Friend of my wife's as well. Got the 6, a months later it had the same issue.

This is in contrast with Apple's official statement. I tend to believe Apple because I saw what causes the problem and there had to be some type of impact simply because the chipset are less protected.

Sorry for the thread necro, but has anybody had an old iPhone 6 plus repaired locally by those fake local wannabe Apple istores we are forced to deal with? My 128GB 6 plus which was bought from them started exhibiting this today after it had a very small drop while in it's case. The phone still looks flawless. I did some research which pointed me to this thread amongst others.

/rant on.
I went to the istore to see what my options are. Those aholes plain out lied. They said it was only valid for 1 year and the apple deal expired, which is bull**** as Apple only admitted the issue and remediation plan in Nov 2016. They plead the fifth when you confront them with facts - i would have shown them the apple notice, but my phone wasn't responding. They can't commit to repair cost as their service techs need to see the phone. Having had previously bought my itoys from official apple stores and getting amazing service and now having to deal with these wannabe aholes here in SA has left such a bad taste, that if I need to bin the phone, I will probably take my chances with the Samsung.

/rant off

On a side note, twisting the phone a bit slighly across the vertical plane, makes the touch functionality work again so that's what I am doing in the meantime!

Does anyone know how small our Apple market is?

I'm wondering if we'll ever get to the size to warrant a real store, even just one on Cape Town and Johannesburg.

It must be large - since most of the middle and upper class seem to use them. Let's not forget about iPads and. macs which they can also sell and support. Must be a sorta big with corporates ??

They should open official stores in Sandton and Cape Town and then maybe afterwards - Durban :)

Not while Core has the rights in SA.

lol. South Africa is such a small market in the grand scheme of things it's laughable.
