Hi

I'm planning to drive from Cape Town to Durban pretty soon.

I'm thinking it might be a good idea to get the car checked out beforehand just to make sure everything's ready to go. It's not due for a service but it's really for peace of mind.

My question is: Should I take it to Ford to checkup (it's a Ford Figo) or should I take it somewhere else?

If somewhere else, does anyone have a recommended place in Southern Suburbs, CPT?

Thanks

I cant give you advice for CT, but I can say, its a lovely drive - are you coming to Durbs via Transkei or Colesberg Bethlehem?

Colesberg Bethlehem, I believe it's a shorter drive and it's the one we drove when coming to Cape Town. Thinking of staying over in Springfontein.

I just check oil, water and Tyre pressure never had problems before.

You can take it to the stealership if you just want blow some money, because you can :P

Diesel or Petrol?

Diesel: Just put new oil and you'll be fine.

Petrol: a full service should suffice.

As long as your Figo is not older than 10 years (which it obviously is not) it will be fine. I would only be worried if it's an older car.

If you service the car regularly then everything is fine. You can in 10 min check all the regular things that you might need to fill up and things like wear on your tyres. There no need to pay someone for this.

I think the AA has a checklist you can use maybe check them out. If you would really like to pay someone for it take it to the same place that service your car, that you already know and trust. Finding a new trustworthy mechanic can be challenging.

How many tanks of fuel does it take between Dbn and Cpt?

Don't send it anywhere.

If you've been servicing regularly just check oil, water, windscreen washer fluid, tyre pressures and wiper blades.

And go.

Asking a mechanic to see if there's something wrong is like handing them a blank cheque.

Woosh.

It depends on your car. google the distance and do some math

Can someone that's done the trip with a small hatchback answer how many tanks of fuel does the car need for a trip between Dbn and Cpt.

Take your vehicle for wheel balancing and wheel alignment. Other than that, ensure all liquids are topped and tyre pressure correctly inflated.

And Pack this.

I have one of those!

All 4 of my tyres were replaced a few months ago.
