Cheapest uncapped 20Mbps fibre in South Africa

Price alone doesn't mean much. You have to add in the installation costs as well and break the total package down over a year. Most ISP's that cover installation fees state that if you leave them within a year you have to pay it back.

Looking at these prices, it looks like costs may be coming down quite nicely.

I moved from SADV to Cool Ideas, stayed on a 10MB line, and got a R100 per month price cut. Now, I could to Cipherwave Home Connect, pay R10 less per month, and get 20MB.

Only problem with that is the high installation costs.

EDIT: And I'll note, thank goodness that we are using fiber and not ADSL where Telkom controlled the prices.

Around where I stay (LinkAfrica + Mitsol open network) it's month-to-month and most ISPs offer free installation. If one at least one area does it, it's sure to become more widespread over time. In my particular case, the ISP doesn't pay for the FTTH installation in to the home so passes that 0 cost to the customer - if you move ISPs, the physical fiber provider still gets to retain the client through the new ISP, so it's silly to have the ISP charge installation; the company who laid the FTTH is pretty much guaranteed to keep your business for many years, so that 24-month contract is almost implicit in you getting your FTTH connection.

There are some companies doing everything right, and we can only hope free market forces make everyone follow suit.
