Big DStv Now expansion – Compact, Extra, and Chromecast

MultiChoice has announced that the DStv Now live streaming service is expanding to DStv Extra and Compact subscribers, and will support the Google Chromecast.

Update: “These features will become available to our DStv Compact and Extra customers at no extra cost during the first quarter of our new financial year (April),” said MultiChoice.

Chromecast support is scheduled to arrive in April. MultiChoice added that AirPlay support is also expected to launch during April.

Well done. It was overdue but better late than never.
Online only bouquet is the next logical step.

Instead of offering DSTV Now to more subscribers they should first fix the app which can't work on 90% of Android devices.
Emails send to DSTV Now and Multichoice's email addresses stay unanswered after several months.
Why can't the app just work like Showmax?
Why use such ancient DRM technology that has so much compatibility problems on Android devices that are fully unrooted and have Widevine DRM?
Not even mentioning if you upgrade the firmware on your Android device, the same device can show as registered 4 times and then you already used up your 4 allocated devices that are possible with the same device. It makes no sense and Multichoice still hasn't answered me that question after emailing them so many times.

It would make a lot more sense if they had a test video in the DSTV Now app where users can first test if streaming works on their device before the device gets registered automatically as one of your 4 allocated devices and can never work with the service.
Hopefully with more users getting access to the service, more people will complain that they can't get it working, which is good.

At least steaming on a PC works but the picture freezes so many times(not buffering) that you have to refresh the site which can become irritating after a while.

The same goes for almost every streaming service out there, as well as Apple's iTunes. It is also not limited to Android, but iOS and Windows as well.

If you reinstall Windows on a PC that has been registered before with any of these services, they see it as a new device which gets added to the total.

Pity they didn't have it when people were asking for it or just for the PVR requirement to be removed. Guess everyone flocking to Netflix is having an impact.

Instead of emailing them, use the chat option on the dstv now app.

Or go to 'settings' and 'manage devices'

I don't suppose that this works on a PC? Genuinely ignorant question.

Can someone please clarify where this article comes from I tried chromcast now.
Supersport does not support chromecast at all. It simply does not.

I tested dstv now as well. It does not even remotely support chromcast so please fix the mistaken article.

Are we in April yet? Do you ever read beyond the headline?
