Teraco raises R1.2 billion to expand data centres

Can someone explain to me like I'm five about what Teraco is and why it is a big deal...

This forum is inside it.
Not true. This forum is hosted by Hetzner who has their own (rather nice) data centre campus. The forum does however user a content distribution network (CDN) with some presence in Teraco so i guess you could be forgiven for your confusion.

Teraco was launched as a public data centre that was not owned by a network operator. Their claim is that this makes them unbiased about who you use for connectivity. This was something that many existing data centre operators were handling poorly at the time.

They run a good quality operation which is important and they have been the best in this for a while. The market is shifting though. Connectivity costs have come down a lot and are no longer the outright majority that they were withiin people's budgets. This means that other options are emerging. These days they are the premium option at a premium price in this sector.
