AMD launches Radeon RX 500-series graphics cards

Compared to the 400 series.

RX 550 1150 vs 1050 boost clock, 100MHz boost increase
RX 560 1175 (1257) vs 1090(1200) base/boost, 1024 vs 896 stream processors, 57MHz boost increase, 108 more stream processors.
RX 570 1168 (1244) vs 926 (1206) base/boost, 38MHz boost increase, 30W power increase to 150W
RX 580 1257 (1340) vs 1120 (1266) base/boost, 74MHz boost increase, 35W power increase to 185W

The TDP increase is not cool.

The pricing stays unchanged? A MSRP which is not really achieved through the sales channel.

Meh - avg 10% improvement would not be generally noticeable I reckon.

It may not be worth the upgrade from a rx480 but for anyone with a 2015 card and below it'll be a nice upgrade. I don't think NV is releasing anything this year so this will steal more sales from the 1060.

Rumour has it nvidia is bringing out a 1060ti which going on past cases will be a cut down 1070. But as I said it's only a rumour right now.

The other thing is with the Rand going the way it does (Thanks Zupta) the RX 500 series might just cost more than the 400 series currently available on the shelves.

Don't get all the hate tbh. It's mostly meant for new buyers anyway. Anyone "upgrading" from a 480 to a 580 needs to have their head checked. Definitely a few improvements: FS2, Chill, a bit more overclocking headroom (like single digit %), but that power draw is insane - some tests put it level with the FE 1070! Hungry card is hungry.

I view this in the same light as Skylake -> Kabylake. In fact, it's exactly the same: a refresh of existing tech with a 10% improvement (albeit at a high power cost). Again, no-one went out and bought a 7700k if they were already running a 6700k.

If anything, this could force 4xx card to drop in price, which would reinforce AMD's foothold at the lower end of the GPU market.

We wanted competition again...
