Debian 8.8 released

Debian-installer (minimal ISO) hangs during installation.

I wonder if they've bothered fixing this type of problem - https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=794410 - which I also experienced twice, trying to install an earlier version of Debian 8 (minimal). Version 7 worked fine, though.

For that matter, haven't had issues using the Ubuntu minimal (around 55MB) installer, other than the fact the process froze at around the 80% finished mark, when I selected 2 desktops in the same installation. Just chose MATE to install on its own, after that.

Did you try the extra CD's with proprietary firmware?

They're available on the Debian website. You'll need them for nonfree firmware, such as some WiFi adapters etc.

Here they are:

Choose the one that corresponds to the version of Debian you're trying to install, and unzip the file on the root of your installation USB.

@Flojo - thanks for the info., though I'll just stick with Ubuntu ; it's more than stable enough & I can control when I want updates - two of the things I was looking for in using Linux.

No rolling-release distros. for me :), though I would like to at least try this sometime - http://obrevenge.weebly.com/mate-revenge.html - on a spare SSD .. mainly because I like the look that's been achieved.
