One of the most effective ways to is for the mighty AIC to stop poking holes by insisting on technology companies to open backdoors, and by hording zero-day's. We the innocent are bearing the brunt of these "nukes" that are meant for the likes of ISIS (so to speak). In the wrong hands, they're just as powerful and effective, maybe even more...

running a opensource os does not mean you have to opensource apps running on said os. The US DoD actually makes extensive use of linux strangely enough.

Totally agree on this front and the SA government also uses Linux in lots of places but it doesn't mean they should only run Linux... government should treat IT spend like a normal business and use the best product for the specific business use case.
