DStv Media Sales fined R180 million for price fixing

This is why DSTV is a rotten company to the core.
PayTV with adverts.

If you pay for something in this day and age, it shouldn't have adverts.

Should be 25% of annual profits & 2yrs jail time for directors then maybe they will think twice.

I concur 100%. The fine is paltry and more than likely something they budget for in another name. Unless it hurts and directors/senior management are personally exposed to penalties, there's no real incentive to stop.

Yeah sure...because magazines get all their funding from the cost on the cover.

It simply doesn't work like that.

If you took the adverts away it would be even more expensive than it already is.

Not to say their profits aren't disproportionately ridiculous, but ad-free simply isn't sustainable.

Hence why print media is dying.

It has nothing at all to do with the advertising model and everything to do with other forms of media...which mostly all have advertising too.
That other media generally is 100% advertising.

The way it should be:

DSTV premium (at current price) = no adverts
DSTV standard (at reduced price) = adverts

What they are doing right now is pushing away consumers.

Like I said, no adverts simply aren't sustainable.

Less adverts I can agree with.

The problem is if they take out the adverts they need to fill it with content which further pursed up costs and perpetuates the problem.

They make plenty of money - it's not like they are running close to break even.
What they want is to have their cake and eat it.

Give it a few more years; people have started to see there are much better and cheaper alternatives.
Even the mighty Monochoice will die it's well deserved death.
