Vodacom lets you schedule YouTube video downloads overnight

Yeah, because I don't want to watch the you tube clip right now. I want watch it...tomorrow...after I downloaded it.

Kind of reminds me of apple's "you're holding the phone wrong" brain fart. :rolleyes:
 
mmm good idea to make use of dormant capacity sitting on the network doing nothing, but doubt this will be a big thing that time of night/morning. When I want to watch something now, I want to watch it NOW so I stream it there and then. Then again, I am on a uncapped fixed line, so perhaps this will have a place and purpose to serve. Just because me or you dont have a need for something or dont want to use something, does not mean the need or appetite for a certain service is not there at all.

Showmax and Netflix allows you to download something to watch later. YouTube does it and everyone bats an eye.
 
Why the 48 hour limit - seems stupid. It's not copyrighted content, surely?

They should provide a nice chunk of data for YT only otherwise zero-rate it via a portal of their own with an advert every hour.

If they really wanted to make use of dormant capacity they can offer 10GB for the price of 1GB. Heck the dsl providers are offering unlimited night time. Really these stunts of them just make them look cheap.

Correction, Vodacom does it. And with Netflix you do it to avoid the buffering but can still watch it whenever you want but in this case you now have to wait till midnight because Vodacom doesn't want to lower their rates for the last 7 years.
 
Not bad - only 4 providers worldwide currently offer this.

Personally I prefer my streaming to be happening immediately but to each his own I suppose.

Mostly for using it offline where there is no internet.

Same way YouTube already supports offline for similar reasons anyway.
 
How is this not more widespread in 2023? Is it still only Vodacom? Does this feature still exist?
I'm switching to Vodacom for work this week so I'll confirm but can assure you I don't see any means or options on Telkom Mobile as of today
