Intel unveils Core i9 CPU – The most extreme desktop processor ever

Hmm AMD starts to bring a little heat, we suddenly have a new CPU from Intel. Who said competition doesn't help?

Core X, but it's i9..

and i8? Or is that just BMW? Are they taking counting lessons from Bill Gates?

Wow - price will be Extreme as well.

The Core X family starts with the Core i5-7640X at $242, which offers 4-cores and 4-threads. The Core i7 X-Series range from a $339, 4-core / 8-thread model to a $599 10-core / 20-thread chip.

As for the Core i9? Intel will be offering four models (not counting the i9 Extreme mentioned earlier) ranging from $999 for a 12-core / 24-thread processor to a $1,699, 16-core / 32-thread chip.

I speak under correction, but aren't all the Core CPU's odd numbered: i3, i5, i7? Therefore i8 would not have made sense.

Lekker. Been rumoured for a while.

These days I don't need much power, so Coffee Lake is more my future.

Enjoying my 55w i3-3240 CPU that I built for an HTPC setup, running Elementary OS on it.
It is well over capable.
Just waiting for an AMD RX550 silent edition or maybe an RX560.

The prices of cpu's are truly staggering, considering how pointless they are for the average jo.

I have a i5 2500, and a 970GTX, a R10 000+ cpu will make a negligible difference, as opposed to say some more RAM and a R9000 gfx card.

Just my $0.02

I still don't see this as "what competition does"

Thread Ripper is probably going to be R10000-R12000 and the Intel version double that?
