Graphics cards designed for cryptocurrency mining coming soon – Report

I'm guessing just normal cards that have a factory BIOS mod installed doing all the timings, undervolting etc out of the box.

Might be a good deal for someone that wants to just game and not mine, they say it's going cost less and have 90 day warranty, then you can just flash the BIOS again to stock speeds and sacrifice your 3 year warranty for a cheap GPU.

Probably will be near impossible to get though.

Won't that be hard considering the below rumor?

""Both GPUs will not feature ports for image output and their prices will also be cheaper than the same grade products""
 
AMD and NVidia is creating a new market to sell existing products to, which is likely surplus GPUs repackaged to cater to mining rigs. It is likely to age like ASIC with little to no resell value.

Won't have the image ports - that is what will lower the cost

Yea that is why I stick to the higher price items, because there is some resell value there if all goes down

I only saw that now when I went to the DigiTimes link, so they are going to have zero resale value even it's still a perfectly fine GPU.

It would be stupid to not have at least one HDMI port or something.

It is still clever on their part, they can move chips which would have essentially been wasted in supply. Also, they need to separate the markets as the current crypto-mining trend has compromised the MSRP entry point to market. Have a look at the used market, sellers list their hash rate and then gooi a lekker extra value to the selling price… ugly.

This also opens innovation, this gives a chance to AMD and NVidia to test the market, then an opportunity to create a new line GPU optimised in memory to cater to crypto-mining. Yes, the cards will become quickly redundant, but like I said it will help AMD and NVidia to move their chip surpluses.

Hence the only real winners here is the hardware manufacturers.
 
These cards will just enable more and more people to start mining, saturating the already overcrowded mining arena.

Not really, cryptocurreny was designed in principle to be maintained by any worker, going against this is going against the openness. This is not supposed to be monopolised, any worker ‘plugging’ into the network have their share.
