Currently my Billion 7300 is set to bridged mode and I have setup a connection on my PC using my local only account details. Problem is that I cannot connect to my PC remotely from work when it is using the local account details. I however can connect when I setup a connection that uses my international account details. Now I would like to setup my Billion 7300 to do half-bridge mode. I will then enter my international account details into the Billion 7300 and switch on port forwarding to allow me to remotely connect to my PC from work. This should allow me to still use the connection on my PC using the local only account details. Can a Billion 7300 do half-bridge mode?

Hi

Yes the 7300 can do "half-brdge".

It is called PPPoE relay and you must enabled it under the following tabs: Configuration --> WAN --> ISP --> EDIT and then scroll right to the bottom and tik the little box that says PPPoE relay.

Basically it keeps your router in router mode but adds modem only functionality as well. So you can let the router handle your authentication to the ISP as per usual but also allow you to have a broadband dialup connection on your PC. So I will stick my main international account details directly into the router and use my local only account details in the broadband dialup on my PC.

Schweet. I was wondering how I'm gonna explain PPPoE to the rest of the people in the house.

What on earth is 'half bridge'?

Half-Bridge mode is when you enter your ISP details in the router itself and then when the router connects it passes the WAN IP to your Network interface card kind of like the router's DHCP server assigning a LAN ip to your NIC.

I believe what AllBrain is talking about is PPPoE with Pass-through or Relay.

all billion routers can do half bridge

even the cheapest ones

Not true in Australia. I've tried on 7404VGP and 7300 without success and Billion Australia now confirm that half-bridge is only supported on the 5200 series.
