Valve bans over 40,000 Steam accounts after Summer Sale

People buy games when on sale expressly to cheat at. Specifically CSGO and GTA5 are bought with fake or stolen credit cards
 
Also VAC clobbers cheaters at CSGO and the accounts get "vac banned" so you can't play on official servers.

When the game is half price, why not right?
 
Smart move on their part to ban the accounts after the sale.
Lets say someone bought a bunch of games and then cheated in one of them and got VAC banned, they lose their whole steam account but Valve keeps the money for the stuff they didnt cheat in.
Also they wanted those accounts to buy stuff before closing them, sneaky Gabe, sneaky.

What games can I play if I've been VAC banned?

VAC banned accounts can still play single-player games, local LAN games, and multiplayer on non VAC-secured game servers. To find non VAC-secured servers, from the Steam main menu click on View, select Servers, then select Not secure in the Anti-cheat dropdown.

Cheaters corrodes everyone’s gaming experience. There is not only VAC bans, but also server bans, some being VAC-secured and others third-party or 'admin' secured.

Also, this is most likely more ‘new’ accounts, to cheat, than current accounts, and most will only be temporary vacations.

Only cheaters support cheating, and cheaters never truly admit to cheating.
 
Came here expecting discussion about Valve ban, received a lecture about cheating instead..
 
from what I have read on other sites many of the bans are "re-bans". Apparently many users that got banned previously created new accounts and bought games on the sale only to be banned again.

Another take is that cheaters create multiple accounts and buy games on sale and the use these accounts to test whether VAC pics up the modified files they use.

hahaha i dont cheat, never have and never will but I always worry for a false accusation on my account banning me, so when ever i see a ban wave like this. 1st Step is check my account, then check to any of my friends on my friends list has been banned in the last couple days. Luckily Fulcrum was not caught this time :p your time is coming my young padawan! :p
