So this morning i checked my data usage on Afrihost Client Zone and was surprised I've reached my cap (I'm on the 55+55gigs package)

The usage report shows 35.5gigs used on the 21st, though almost everyone was out of the house all day except my stepmom who only has a huawei P8 lite....and with our shoddy speed @ 8mbps, its kinda impossible to pull 35gigs by herself (needs constant 1 megabyte download for 10 hours to achieve this, highly unlikely on a phone with less than 16gigs of space used by an old lady over 60 years old)

So we opened a ticket to Afrihost support to get an all day usage log for the 21st (to check the time of usage so we can find out where the data "leak" occurred), and they sent me an empty CSV file.

Anyways, so assuming it was one of our PCs doing an update loop or something, I brought 10gigs this morning...I came home after being out all day, checked the router logs which shows 670megs download and 40megs upload, and I got an emailing stating I only have 1.65gigs left out of the 10gigs I just purchased this morning.

So I opened another support ticket to ask for the reason for this...

This is seriously making me lose faith in Rain, and the quality of support from Afrihost is also getting me down.
Are anyone experiencing the same thing? How did you guys resolve it?

It's likely 100% something on your network, either a device doing nasty things or someone piggybacking on your WiFi. Best thing to do is screenshot your router's usage logs with a timestamp and correlate them to usage spikes on Afrihost's usage graph.

I am also hosted on Afrihost and have complained about the same thing. In my case the email notification is not date time stamped. So one gets these emails and has a heart attack only to discover the situation relates to a few days ago.

On the plus side 100 % uptime and good site hosting speed.

Well we live on a plot so the closest neighbor is like almost 1km away, cant be someone piggybacking, but possibly a device.

But router's log dont have the time stamps required, afrihost's usage log is also by day, not by hours or min....which is why I'm asking them for one, but got an empty CSV file instead.

And the oddest thing is, i brought 10gigs this morning, got activated around noon...and i've already used by 8gigs though the router showed 700megs +-

Also no email notification like last month...hence i'm so confused.

Wish i had email notifications, had them last month which was awesome...this month "nothing"

I had a similar issue on the 18th where I left a single laptop running the Windows update in the morning and got a email around 11am warning about usage, when I logged in to view usage it showed that over 20GB was used

Strange enough I did the same update later on another laptop on Telkom mobile and it recorded the total usage as 3.74GB. Both the laptops were basically on the same version as I run their updates concurrently.

Not sure why it would take 5 times more data to update on the Rain network unless the update failed numerous times which would still be weird if it managed to download so much data in that time frame.

Did u open a case? What's the response?

Hi

Did you look at the data usage modem versus client zone. If they tie up there is no problem.
I did this when using Telkom or who ever else network in use. (ADSL etc.)

I compare mine on a regular basis and they tie up.
I also switch my PC and modem off once I'm finished with my daily surfing or playing time.

Yeah checked, theres around 14gigs difference

110gigs used on router, 124gigs on afrihost

I sent them screenshots of client zone and my router usage which showed about 12 gigs difference. They 'refreshed 'the account and now balance is correctly showing

Cool thanks

let me do that also, they just somma stopped responding to me....

Same story...

- Big spike in usage on 18th
- Attempted to download detailed usage logs, but csv was empty
- Emailed support requesting detailed logs, they fobbed off this request with the following reply:

"Please be advised that the actual RAIN LTE data links are kept by the primary producers of this Fixed Wireless package. We try our best in order to update our system in time with theirs."

- I have once again requested detailed usage logs.

- Saga still ongoing...

Glad (in a way) to hear I'm not the only one...this type of reliability really makes be feel insecure.
I'm not trying to say I didnt use the data, if I did use it I would gladly pay for it....but if they have this inconsistency and also dont have a working usage log...it feels like there'll be many more discrepancy to come...as with Telkom

And I've only just joined them like a month and a half ago:cry:

Ja they told me the same thing, logs arent available currently.

I mean the least they can do is match my data with my router logs...I have requested to loop in their support leader.

Just saying "sorry its not available" while we pay for their incompetent implies they're just another average ISP

Honestly I thought winning ISP of the year would make them a little different

I have a VDSL line with Afrihost and struggle to use 100 gig a month - I received my Afrihost Raine LTE + router with 40 gig pro-rata data I connected my home network to the LTE router and within 1 hour I received 2 emails stating first I had used 80 % of my data and then 100%. I believe there data metering may be measuring megs as gigs.

I got the same thing happening to me this morning, just lost 16gigs of data in one day.

Can i get a log of my data usage for the day.
