Hey guys

I'm experiencing an issue with my LTE where every night at 12 sharp (and often a few times around 12, eg 11:30pm or 1am) my Telkom LTE will lose connection, irrespective of whether it's on 4G or 3G mode, or what spectrum (1800 or 2300) I'm using.

I then check downdetector.co.za, or activity on their Twitter handle and unsurprisingly, I'm never the only person complaining

The problem is, I contacted Telkom Social media early last week to try and establish a cause for the problem, but all they did was ask me what number was being affected and then told me that they've escalated it to their networks department (their usual trick of keeping you waiting an eternity for nothing)

As it is, my ADSL line is dropping sync 24/7 since it started raining, which is why I'm using LTE. In fact the only reason I have LTE is so that I have a reliable failover when my ADSL is not working. As a competitive gamer, this type of unreliable service is just not acceptable. I'd be willing to tolerate it if they could provide me with a legitimate reason for why it's happening, but instead they are mum. Paying for poor service is one thing, but getting no answer/customer support when you simply ask the question of why you are experiencing these scheduled interruptions, just takes that frustration to the next level.

Am I the only one experiencing this highly disruptive midnight phenomenon? Does anyone know why it's happening yet?

I'm getting to too, its just their ****ball scam to block the 500bg after hours afk users from actually getting any data

My suspicion exactly!

Sounds like another mobile operator data theft scam which belongs on the mybb front page as headline news!! Mods?? Can we do something about this daylight scamming please. This crap needs to be exposed

Furthermore, why should it be affecting clients who are not part of this 500GB deal??

I am paying for a separate product. This is BS!

Im sure some of the MYBB employees do have this package, it would however be nice if they could either do an investigation into this, as secondly the rules from this Uncapped LTE state that they will provide you with 3G when the LTE/4G goes down which they actually dont. But yes it happens just about every night after 12:01 or so. Plus it always happens at the end of the month that im 100% sure about.

Same happens to me every night. They're either doing it to "minimize" usage after hours since they charge so little so they wanna keep breaking your connection (mine sometimes goes off at 2am too)

OR, their network staff are so incompetent they can't get proper bandwidth reporting or shaping without disconnect open connections first then restarting.

I'm putting my money on one of the two above.

It happened to me last week exactly at 0:00 when I was preparing downloads for this night. It is like router had been restarted remotely. It may have connection to the tariff change at midnight. If it is a workaround for forced switching to the night data I can afford it.

So it only seems to be affecting Uncapped LTE users then. The question is: Why? AFAIK the Night surfer has nothing to do with Uncapped LTE, amiright? Happened to me again last night. Sigh

Probably a similar issue to when some LTE Uncapped accounts were limited to 180kb/s download speed for weeks. They have no clue how to separate all the different LTE services they provide so they keep applying the changes to everything.

I happened to be awake last night and Both my LTE uncapped and prepaid sim would not connect after midnight, not sure when it came back

Yup, same thing happening to me in Durban North area. Yesterday I noticed I was disconnected early in the evening as well, then later again at 12pm on the dot. Sometimes a reboot, or changing spectrums doesn't help. Need to wait up to 15-20 minutes before I can get "Connected" again.

This happens to me constantly too - and I am not uncapped.

I too suspect that they are forcing IP changes for those making use of paid download services and that kills the downloads for the rest of the night.

What I have noticed the past few weeks is that they do this at around 12:30 again or simply throttle download speeds to around 20KBPS.

It happens constantly. Sometimes they are down for 5 minutes, but some nights at 02:00 they were still not back online.

On the other hand, this is South Africa. This is the kind of service delivery we have to become accustom to. We are likely never to see any decent service delivery in this country.

knowing Telkom they're try blame it on air theft...

Did not disconnect tonight rather surprisingly ..

As usual, mine did at around 12:10. Downloaded about 300MB and then disconnected. It came back on but had a capped download speed of less than 8kbps. Downloaded about 37MB up to 7 this morning.

Edit: in addition, I see we are capped to 200kbps today since 07:00. No matter what we do, that seems to be the cap. Also, once you download and it reaches 200kbps, the connection drops.

Something seriously wrong with Telkom LTE.

Was awake and wondered why everything stopped.

Telkom is messing around too much now with LTE.. seems their network cannot handle the pressure of all these new sign ups.. its time they upgrade their infrastructue!
