A public apology has been issued to the community of Phaposane‚ parents and learners at Pitso-Letlhogile secondary school by the North West Department of Health.

The department said it has "reflected on the incident of birth control injection of learners for prevention of pregnancy" at Pitso-Letlhogile Secondary School at Phaposane near Ganyesa.

"The incident‚ though it was carried out with good intentions by our sub-district‚ did not sit well with the parents and the affected learners. The department admits that there should have been thorough consultation on the matter particularly with all affected parties including the Department of Education‚ the school management and the parents.

"The manner in which the activity was carried out is regrettable since it left learners feeling that their rights particularly the right to human dignity and the right to privacy were infringed."

How tf do you give kids a birth control injection without consent and then just say sorry and walk away ?

You have no issue with people injecting your kids with substances without your consent? Cool beans....please send kids this way. Always wondered what petrol does when injected intravenously.

to you both this is not something to be taken lightly.
There are Side effects to birth control , and if one of them end up in hospital and not know what they are on other medication could affect them, or decide to go on birth control and that can really screw up their system. Or hell they start sleeping around somehow end up thinking they cant get pregnant only to end up pregnant when the injection wears off.

Sex ed is something that should be taught to these kids not forced on them like this without their knowledge .

Have you considered legal ramifications should something o wrong? Unless this is legislated and proper medical checks performed on these kids, the department has no business in what they do with their bodies I'm afraid

For example. You do know that some people are sometimes allergic to some drugs?

If I was a parent, I would sue the department right away.
