Windows “April 2018” update rolling out from today

All I see is more bloat.

Loving my Debian system lately, some workarounds needed like for Adobe's products, but other than that windows can suck it.

Out of interest, for the 3 or 4 people in SA using Windows Mixed Reality headsets, the update brings haptic feedback to the controllers, improvements to controller tracking, improved reprojection for the headset, and general performance improvements to in-game frame rates.

New Kubuntu 18.04 is also out. Looking pretty nice on a test laptop I've got.

Going through the list:

This is the number one new feature.
Audio preferences per app

Microsoft is adding in some great new audio features with this Windows 10 April 2018 Update. You can now set the input or output audio devices per application. You could have Spotify audio blasting out of your speakers, while your browser audio comes through a headset. The new audio settings let you customize both the input and output per application, so it’s also useful if you use different microphones across a variety of apps.
This is a close second:
Fix blurry apps

Scaling desktop apps has always been an issue in Windows, but this latest April 2018 Update is trying to make blurry apps a thing of the past. Windows 10 will now detect if an app is blurry because of a monitor change or if you docked a laptop, and it will attempt to scale it better to stop apps from scaling too small or becoming blurry.

Windows 10 has simply proven to be the best OS for me ever. Native app support for almost any software on the market is a big plus that Linux could never emulate good enough to be a worthy alternative and playing games is a breeze.

im with thor here, sneaky bloatware creeping in.

i would disable or remove the update but then other stuff gets angry and errors at you. can this be removed through windows features in programs and features i wonder

If you installed 1709 the update to 1803 is much faster. It's not an entire OS install, just a real update.

Actually 1803 is slimmer and leaner than 1709. Quite a bit is tightened up.

Yeah 1803 is really quick.

What is the new voice to text feature like and can it be used in any text field?

So the blurry fixing thing will work when you use non standatd scaling to compensate for a high dpi display, it'll resolve that?

Fix blurry apps, is annoying, every time I tab out of a fullscreen game that schit pops up even though my desktop & game are both running at native 1080p

Haven't enabled it yet.
Using the separate sound system, seems to just be a quick toggle to separate, can't play sound through separate devices.

I see old Microsoft 'retired' moles there.

I might check out what's up when constant forced updates are gone and MS 'Telemetry' can be disabled or completely removed.

Otherwise I am not interested.

We’re watching you

I will be downloading as soon as it becomes available for me and on 43 PCs I no support.
And BTW, NONE of those PCs will update themselves. And Bloatware ?? Just about nil as NONE of the MS Store stuff updates automatically either. And nothing that any of the users of those 43 PCs do not want downloads either ......

Beware of moles, they can bite. Moles can get angry if you don't show them enough interest.

They could also mess up your lovely lawn if you were allowed one...

Got the update a few minutes ago. Some cool features have been added, so kudos to MS. It did break 7+ Taskbar Tweaker though which really sucks (stops icons stacking in the taskbar). Hopefully that gets fixed soon.
