Can I please get your opinions on which Fiber Network provider is better, VUMA or Open serve.

I currently using Hellkom, ag I mean Telkom , as the fiber line provider but I see now that both the above providers are now in my area.

Thanks in advance
Leo

Telkom is OpenServe, one and the same.

I'd personally go with Vumatel just to get away from Telscum.

Haven't tried Openserve.

I was happy with Vumatel, this is changing fast. 2 weeks I'm waiting for a support ticket to be even acknowledged, no answer by email or Twitter.

No news from when anybody will come fix it.

In the meanwhile, I'm on LTE and have stopped the debit order until they decide to move.

does seem that most isp packages are a bit cheaper on Vumatel then Openserve.

Besides, do you really want to deal with telkom ?

VUMA is cheaper, they use an Active Network, and there is less congestion than Openserve, however their customer service sucks, unless you use your ISP to manage them.

Openserve is telkom, so high costs, lots of people complaining about congestion on the network, customer service has been doing a lot better, loosing over a million customers in less than 2 years tend to do that though

My experience - no congestion on the Openserve fibre network and I had a terrible experience on their DSL lines. Best thing I enjoy about Openserve is the ability to run multiple ISPs on a single connection similar to DSL.

then you are one of the lucky ones there. For each there will be good news and bad news stories i guess.

My vote is with openserve, I have fiber from both providers.

Vuma at a miner location and openserve for my house, vumatel gives issues at least once every three weeks and support is horrible. Had to install a fail-over link because of the constant downtime. No issues with my openserve fiber as yet so I can't comment on the support level.

FYI, Openserve and Telkom operate as two different entities these days.

I was in the exact same position. I went with Vuma for a number of reasons.
1.) Cheaper install costs (not that such was a major factor)
2.) Monthly costs for the package range I wanted are cheaper via Vuma than OS on most ISP providers I compared against.
3.) I asked a few ISP's who would they prefer to deal with on my behalf - most said Vuma was easier to deal with.
4.) Vuma is trenched where I am, OS is aerial. And the existing telkom poles seem to be falling over in the neighbourhood - potential for breakage in the short term.

Doesn't mean that Vuma is a "better" provider than OS.

Never expected such a lot of responses to this post. Thank you for making the time to reply.

You guys aren't making my life very easier though with all the different opinions :crylaugh: I also had a long discussion with one of the senior support technicians by my ISP and have decided to give Vumatel another year to stabilize their network in my area before giving them a go ...

Once again I appreciate everyone's input.

A lot would be area dependent - for the most part in Cape Town the quality of service is the same
With us Vuma does have an additional Activation
Openserve also comes in cheaper when comparing download speeds - however this would be an asymmetric service speed

Ive had both - Openserve has been a better experience (1 year on each)
I have worked with an ISP servicing a few hundred clients on both. They have far fewer issues per client on openserve compared to Vumatel. Openserv is also quicker to fix issues on average.

Vumatel is always doing stupid stuff with their pricing, like surprise price increases they call "free upgrades" when they kill off their entry-level product.

That does not mean Openserve is good, they are just less bad at the moment.

Since this thread was reawakened by a necropost it's been +-5 years with Openserv Fibre - Extremely reliable - I'd be surprised if it's not five 9's availability at least for my experience.
