Google has slowed down YouTube on Firefox and Edge – Mozilla exec

Mozilla technical programme manager Chris Peterson stated that Google has deliberately slowed down the performance of YouTube on Mozilla’s Firefox and Microsoft’s Edge web browsers, CNET reported.

“YouTube page load is 5-times slower in Firefox and Edge than in Chrome, because YouTube’s Polymer redesign relies on the deprecated Shadow DOM v0 API only implemented in Chrome,” Peterson said.

This is BS. Polymer is open source. If they want it to be faster in their browser, they should submit a fix or reimplement shadow DOM.

Or maybe YouTube should provide an alternative interface.

From YouTube home page to selecting video and playback starting at 1080p, it's about 1.7s according to my waterfall. Chrome is about 1.4.
Difference is near negligible for me, i7 4720HQ + SSD though. I am also currently running a render which is maxing out GPU 97% and CPU at ~50% average.
