Still no court date for new out-of-bundle data rules

The High Court has still not set a date to hear cases brought by Cell C and MTN against ICASA over the implementation deadline for its new data regulations.

Cell C approached the High Court in Johannesburg on 7 June 2018 to interdict ICASA from enforcing its amended End-User and Subscriber Services Charter. The new rules were set to kick in the following day.

6 months? They may as well have asked for 6 years. The high court is in no hurry to hear the cases either so in the meantime, the consumer gets squeezed dry.

Approaching the Court is not a relief for enforcing new rules. If Court doesn't have time to hear application, they must comply, simply like that. Late application can be considered as a delay tactics. Why Cell C has approached a Court just a day before deadline?

Now an additional delay is caused by joining the case by further participants. Also delay tactics. Legal proceeding is that pleading must be completed before hearing can take place, but the article says that all participants has filled up responses. So what is a problem?

It is actually the public own fault, they should not use these providers.

I'm pissed off that they cancel "expired" data even though it has been paid for.

What gets my goat even more, is the following.

You have a monthly bundle lets say 400mB.
If you run out of data, then you top up with a once off, which has a usage lifetime of 1 month.
When the new calendar moth rolls around, instead of using the once off bundle, it starts chowing the monthly bundle again.

if you wanted to design a system that would optimise the chance of unused data expiring, this is it.
Any logical person would think that you use whatever is going to run out first. It's like having fresh milk and long life milk in the fridge, you don't drink the UHT first!
