[Vodacom] Need help with MMS setting on HTC PHONE {and EDGE}

I need help with MMS settings.
My phone is Cingular 8125, that's the US version of imate K-JAM(SA) or DOPOD 838(far east). And it's OEM by HTC in TAIWAN running Widows mobile 5 system.
I called vodacom customer support and was told they don't support IMATE and HTC (but in the lastest vodashop booklet they have contracts for 3-4 different HTC PPC/smart phones......
Can anyone tell me how to setup MMS? GPRS setting is not a problem but MMS won't work.......
How good is EDGE coverage in JOBURG? I could not connect to any, only GPRS in my area, it's between ROSEBANK, SANDTON and HYDEPARK......

Easiest is to download the Vodacom settings from Leaf's website and install them. Also do a search on this forum. The settings have been published a few times.

Who told you Vodacom does not support these phones? Of course we do! Won't you PM me the details with whom you spoke and I can set them straight.

Very little EDGE in Jhb at the moment, still being rolled out.
 
Thanks V3G! Downloaded vodacom 1.2 WAP from leafwireless and installed on my PPC, but it's not working. Now I have got a vodacome4me MMS centre, but after I sent MMSs from vodacome4me site and another phone, my phone received the title of these MMSs with sender and date, but it will not download content at all. My setting has been setted to alway download MMS. If I open the MMS and press download it will just kick back to my MMS mailbox. Then I uninstalled my vodacom WAP settings, and manually deleted the Vodacom GPRS setting I entered previously, re-install the CAB, soft reset. now everything is gone, in my connections, no more GPRS settings, MMS centre still there but still won't download.
I already deleted all the overseas APN, MMS centre settings prior I do all the above. And my phone is running a non-English ROM.
Any clues what could be the problem??

You also need to set up the MMS client itself. You're getting the notification SMS but cannot download the MMS.

Do a search for MMS settings in this or the Cellular forum, and you'll find step by step instructions.
Where are you based?
 
Joburg, got the phone from overseas because it's cheaper and I need to visit non-English sites on my PPC a lot....
 
BTW, in my phone there are two connections settings, one for wap and one for internet. and in VC MMS centre there is another gateway IP 196.6.128.6,port 9021. Different to normal nokia's MMSC....... And I have to choose which connection to use in MMS (internet/wap) besides, such gateway ip and port.......
 
I noticed on my TyTn, even though I've set my MMS settings to download automatically, it won't automatically break the connection to the internet apn and connect to the mms apn. I must first do a 'send & receive' in the MMS inbox and then say 'yes' to break and connect.

Probably a setting somewhere. Any idea?

yip ... the device uses 2 different data connections for internet and MMS .. you will have to disconnect your active internet connection to receive your MMS ...
if you dont have an active internet connection your device will download the MMS automatically ...
press and hold the end call button on your device to disconnect your active data channel once your are done using the internet ...
keeping the channel open all day chews up battery life ... If you are using the push mail facility on the device then you are using the device as a business tool so stop muking around with MMS's and get back to work :D

The K-Jam and JasJar would automatically kill the internet connection, attach on the mms apn, download the mms and then reconnect on the internet apn.

I'm sure the TyTn should be able to do the same. It's very frustrating to have to manually download the MMS's, I get probably about 20 to 40 per day, mostly my house sending me info on who's at the door, when the baby cries and other events.

Keeping the channel 'open', i.e. staying connected should actually use less RF and thus battery power. Everytime the data connection is established, there is some overhead. Once active, nothing.

aaah yes i forgot you got the whole Automation thing going on ..
do you use push mail ??? if you do then by keeping the channel open your device is constantly polling your exchange server so it should chew up battery power ...

Push mail (and not pull or polling) should be more efficient as you only transfer data when mail actually arrives, while polling will do regular connections at the time interval specified, irrespective of there being mail.

I'll pick up the automatic switching between apns with Leaf.

I understand the concept ... the push mail actually polls the server while you have a permanent connection ...
Try the CAB file and see if it works for you

damn no luck hey ...
why not change your notifications from MMS to e-mail ??? that shouldnt be too much effort considering you got your house automated from your device ...
isnt e-mail more cost effective than MMS ??
