What are the required patches for the retail steelbox version ( patch sizes too)? I'm on ISDN, so patching isn't my favorite hobby.

Also, is Aion playable on ISDN? Thanks!

Hey dude

The steelbox comes with version 1.5.

You'll need to pull a 526MB patch after installation. But remember to change your region settings to European on the NCSoft launcher before pulling the patch or you'll get smacked inna face with a korean UI, which requires a further 300MB patch to fix.

Strange, we know.

Thanks for the info bud. Would you say, me "wasting" my time, downloading 500mb is worth it? Can't seem to get a clear idea of if Aion is worth the monthly subscribtion. I'm currently paying for WoW, so if I started Aion; I would have to drop wow. thanks again

I'd say Aion is definitely worth it if you're coming from WoW and wants something similar.

Keep in mind the game is very overpopulated right now, so you are going to sit in a queue to log in , in some form. WoW had the same thing when it launched.

The 500mb is not going to go away and it's most likely only going to get bigger , so if you are remotely considering playing Aion , might as well start updating.

Now, if you were looking for a total fresh MMO, Aion might not entirely be it. It's got all the juicy stuff WoW got, it's well polished, but more emphasis on Open World PvP as far as i can tell. Of course i'd say the SA community seems to be grabbing onto Aion, which on an MMO , is what counts. Alot of people play WoW because of other people they know or the size of the community....i expect this to be the same for Aion.

Also ultimately, Aion is NEW, everyone is starting with a clean slate.* WoW on the other hand, you're always behind and odds are whatever you're doing has been done by 5 million players before you. So from that perspective, also worth it..granted you DID enjoy WoW.

*That should be your main reason for picking Aion over WoW [over community].

Aion is a good mix of WoW AND guild wars.

The fact that you don't have Addons alone is worth getting it. I'll say this again - only you can decide whether it's worth the monthly subs. You get a month's free play when you buy the game. So decide from there.

Also - don't base your opinion on the game on your 1st 10 levels. It's very limited and your character only discovers the real world and earns his wings after that.

What is the Official pricing for 3months / 6 months to play Aion (think u get discount if you buy 3months in advance)

vs single Month price (what is the amount when buying only 30days?)

Will be paying by CC

What kind of latency are you guys getting in aion? What can one expect on say: adsl shaped?

I've been playing with 600-800ms (dsl 2mb shaped)
I get about 500ms using unshaped.
HSDPA using my phone i get around 800ms

Lots of people use services such as gamepath/lowerping and it reduces it down to around 300ms.

So....

So guys...what the general consensus of Aion sisnce release of the retail version?

Upside...downside...?

I came from warhammer...never could bring myself to pay for WoW...too cartoony =P and i played DDo and Guild wars...been watching Aion for some time now...and am expecting my copy anyday now.... =D \o/

Looks good...I am itching for a good MMO again =/

I really enjoy it. As mentioned above, its not a revolutionary MMO but its different yet familiar. Nicely polished with items dropping and everything working. I really enjoy the fighting with Chain skills.

1 downside at the moment. Stupid stupid server queue's. +-2hr wait to get onto a server from 5pm onwards.
