I have been waiting for MTN to get the K750i for months now. In the meantime, I've been using a friend's K750i. When I heard that I could be waiting until as long as January, I decided to admit defeat and get something else.

So I got the D600, since most people have been raving about it. So far, I'm not impressed at all.

I admit, it's dead sexy. It really is a smart looking phone, but I'm about ready to pull my hair out! I welcome any D600 users to come and prove me wrong on the following things, so feel free to flame away! PLEASE!

The first thing I tried was to pair the phone with my PC via Bluetooth. My computer found the phone, but was unable to detect any services associated with it. With all Sony Ericsson phones I have tried, the computer usually installs modem drivers, com ports and what not automatically, after pairing. In fact, even Nokia who are notorious for needing extra drivers etc. have got it right with the 6230i. Not so with the D600. And there are no extra drivers on the CD that could help me out, other than USB. So Bluetooth was a failure.

Next, I tried USB. Slightly more luck here, modem drivers etc. were installed. But do you think I could dial out with the modem? No. Error 777.

My first impressions of the PC Suite software were good. Until I tried to use it. Copying a file to the phone via USB took about 10 minutes for a single MP3. This has to be the slowest USB device known to man. And the software is incredibly CPU intensive.

I set the phone to Mass Storage Device, and Windows found it. No chance of actually ACCESSING the new I: that it created though. It kept telling me that I needed to format it.

So after having nothing but headaches with trying to interface the phone with my PC, I decided to just laugh it off and play with the phone itself.

Message Alerts. Oh my god. What we have here are 10 of the most ridiculous alert tones ever! If I was a 10-year old girl, maybe I'd be impressed, but I'm not. The same can be said for the bundled Ring Tones. I'm not a fan of musical ring tones. All I want is a simple "Ring Ring" tone. Not included.

And lastly (for now), sending an SMS requires about 400 key presses before it finally sends the damn thing.

I'm not saying that this is a BAD phone, but I guess I have been spoilt with my friend's K750i that I have been using over the last couple of months. Make no mistake, the D600 isn't even in the same league as the K750i. I hope that this thread gets a million replies explaining what an idiot I am, and showing me how to deal with the issues I have raised. But that won't change the fact that NONE of the above issues are present with the K750i. The Sony just does everything flawlessly, and so much better than the Samsung.

If anyone wants to buy a 1-day old D600, PM me.

SE W800 is available on MTN = k750i+512Mb MP3 storage
Seconded...the W800 is a K750i with a better music player, comes bundled with stereo headphones and different casing (plus it has 512MB Memory Stick) Seems to be freely available..

d600 as most samsung phones are, are look pretty... make call.. take picutures and mms phones..... they are not actually very functional or easy to use phone!!!

FYI, I installed the Widcomm Bluetooth drivers, and these seem to work 100% with the D600, so that fixes a couple of the problems listed above.

I'm impressed with D600 when my firend take a picture of me and then prints it out to HP Photosmart 385 via bluetooth.
Well, I got an instant photo printed in a minute!

After taking the plunge away from Nokia, my first phone was a SE T68i. I have never looked back, and will stay a faithful lover of Sony Ericsson until the day I die.

Using a V800->Z800, and absolutly love it. Looking forward to getting my hands on a P990 upon release next year.

My gf has a D500, and I gotta say, while they look all cute and slinky, they come nowhere near SE for ease of use and functionality. Tried pairing it to PC to upload some games and gave up after a couple of hours.

Change networks!!!

I think maybe u should switch networks. K750i's are freely available from any Vodashop, and have been for 3 months now... January eta is apalling, especially with christmas around the corner!!!

Really bad planning on MTN's part (they normally have to give the manufacturers a 3 month forecast), and as usual, the customer suffers and settles for second best. Grrrrrrrrrr!

IMO, Samsung have tried really hard but still cannot match the good old oldies in the industry, Nokia and Ericsson! But their product does look damn good to the eye tho'...

Yup definately go for Sony Ericcson, they seem to be getting phones right. I like the W900i, except the fact that it still has a 2MP camera. Its got all these upgrades from the W800i, but then they stick it with the same camera.

Fact:ericsson Are The Inventors Of Bluetooth
wasnt it a whole group of company's that came up with the standard/tech, including ericsson, nokia, etc... Cuz i do remember reading stuff about how nokia, ericsson, microsoft, motorola an a whole load of other ppl(cant remeber who else) were involved with the development...

Get an i-mate, mate.. easiest thing ever and you'll be dead happy.. the K750 u've been using is a great phone but the i-mate has mch more functionality. I had a few SE's before (T610, K700, K750, S700, P800) and thought they were all the best phone I've ever had - until I got the i-mate ;). The functionality of the pocket pc phones are awesome and way surpass a regular cellular phone.

Whats included in the sales package?

Do you get a memory card / data cable etc.

I'm talking about the D600 now

I must say, the K750i and the new Nokia N-Series has incredible cameras inside, (for a mobile phone) but I will never buy a phone purely becuase of the camera!

My friend has the D500 - I've never seen him having problems with the Bluetooth or connectivity. In fact, he told me once he came home, and connected to the Internet via GPRS, his bluetooth enabled laptop and of course his D500. Spend the whole afternoon browsing without problems, until he actually started looking for his phone. Then found out it was still in his car... :D

Must say, my N6680 is way better improvement than my 6600 in terms of BT - it syncs automatically perfectly with Outlook everytime I come home.

Will someday try the SE's, though...

According to my research, Ericsson were the guys who came up with the concept of Bluetooth. Then a working group consisting of many of the vendors and other interested parties ws formed and after much discussion, they agreed on the standard which is the Bluetooth we know today.

stNick i know what u mean man, okay i just upgraded from a samsung E700 to a Z500

first problem about data transfer, the god damn bluetooth is like 1000x times faster than the usb, it is really that slow and theres nothing u can do about it, and u cant export/import sms's with the software. notice how uploading is faster than downloading though.

nextup the dialing out, look dont use the software they give u, just install the modem drivers and then use normal windows dialer, check ur phone settings for the number to dial etc., and there isnt any username and pass, it works fine in 3g and gprs.

message alerts are really crap. i agree 100%, okay now heres a way to solve it, its long difficult and may cause serious bodily harm okay. search thro www.howardforums.com for a more detailed explanation.

1. open a wav file on ur comp, keep it less than 7 secs, use a converter like PSMPlay 5.41 (google it) to convert it to a mmf.

2. copy the mmf to ur phone, and then u can assign this to the message alert tone, via the special tone option.

lastly the sending message problem, compared to my e700 that took about 3 keypresses, thats less than a nokia 3310 :) the d600(z500) if not operated by trained personal can take about 13 keypresses.

now theres 2 ways to get this to work faster. the first involves using the middle button as a select this avoids some really stupid questions that get asked if u use the top left menu key. but still takes about 7 keypresses.

the second is slighty faster. assign the down arrow of the square jog to the phonebook. then hit it and move to the persons name. now this is the tricky part but ull get used to it.

1. press select 3xtimes (first time enters contact, second views contact, 3rd opens menu)

2. then hit "4" and select again (4 = send message, select = send sms)

3.type the sms

4.hit center key 2x times that's in the middle of the jog square, it sends directly to the person selected.

all of that equals 7 key presses, but since u just gonna hit the key 3 times, everything happens really fast and it feels like ur sending a sms like the good ol times.

hope it helps, we need to create a samsung anonymous for the worst firmware and user interface ever created.

>>screw my spelling

come on guys it really aint such a bad phone. I got d500 very happy besides for the sand in the slider

I am also a SE fan. I have had a SS S700i for about 5 months and it is the most awesome phone of its generation. I mean the screen alone made that phone the best thing on gods green earth(QVGA - 240x320 pixels). Nothing could compare to it, and I laughed at every person who got the D500 instead.

Now my step-mother got a D600, and I have to admit that I love the phone. I find it quite easy to use (Not saying the same for my step-mother but yeah...). The camera quality is brilliant, screen is good, it is compact, and works quite well as a phone as well.

That is my opinion on the subject...
